NHL Play Off Prediction thread

Pittsburgh/Carolina, Game 1 tonight.

I hope Fleury has his "A" game on through most of this series because I don't think Cam Ward at the other end will be letting the Pens score too highly.

Pens off to a good start.

If you're seeing the series on Versus, I've got to say I really like Daryl Reaugh on color. He's one of the best going and he's able to turn a phrase that sticks with you. "Happy hands" tonight.

I saw him one game where a huge hit was delivered at the blue line and he called it a "real rectum rattler".

A nerve rattling one.

I've been really impressed with Miro Satan, who returned to the team with a new vigor after being uncerimoniously dumped down into the minors. He's been looking great lately, just when we really needed him.
I live near the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area (the home of the minor league Penguins), and Satan was very classy with his demotion to the minor league team here. A move like that is very tough on a veteran player like Satan. He took it in stride and became one of the team leaders for the "Baby Penguins", and respected the team itself, rather than treating it like something that was "beneath" him.

When Satan was called back up to the big team for the playoffs, he had a players-only team meeting with the minor-league Penguins, who were themselves about to start the Calder Cup playoffs. He supposedly gave the young players on that team great advice on what it takes to succeed in the NHL that only a veteran of Satan's stature could give.

I suppose many other veteran NHL'ers in that situation would be very quick to end their minor league demotion by saying nothing except "so long, suckers".

Perhaps Mike Lange should borrow that one from Reaugh.

I'm bitter about hockey right now because the four teams that I wanted to see move on all lost their conference semis series. (Come on now! Washington vs. Boston would have been an epic series!)

I guess I'll cheer for Chicago... some good young players... exciting to watch... (WTF was Vancouver thinking trying to play run and gun against them? Argh!) Unforunately, they are no match for Detroit when Osgood is at least doing a decent job.

Prediction:
Gino Malkin will post his first playoff hat trick in a break-out performance against the Hurricanes in game 2 tonight...oh, and the Pens will win 5-3.

I have no reason for thinking this, except that I'm a Penguins fan. Isn't that enough of a reason? ;)

Oooooo...spooky, huh? Maybe I should try another prediction...
...here goes:
"I will win the $192 Million Lotto this week."
Let's see how I do this time with my prediction.

Did you really predict Malkin's hat trick, or do you have a sneaky way of altering the time of your posts?

In any event, way to go Pens! :D :D :D

But you got the final score wrong, so you'll probably end up winning $5 in the lottery. ;)

Good call, at any rate.

I just figured he had been a bit too quiet. I realize he has quite a few playoff points, but he hasn't yet been "front and center"...

...I just guessed it was "his time" to shine.

Heehee, $5 eh?...I'll take it!

A dozen points in 5 games, or something along those lines. Malkin's the Pens' most consistent player. He hadn't been in the spotlight because it always gravitated toward Sid and Ovie, and then to Sid and the Staal brothers.

That last goal of his was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, though. The deadly accuracy he has on his backhand is unreal. Poor Ward had no chance in hell. (Lange: "Cam Ward just lost his liquor license!" )

Malkin now leads the league in playoff points with 25 (Crosby is one behind with 24). Geno's been playing mostly consistently throughout the playoffs (although a little shaky at times in the first and second round) but it took the hat trick for most people to take notice.

...I have a feeling tonight's game won't be as wide-open and high-scoring as game 2 was. I'm thinking perhaps a low-scoring OT game.

One of the announcers on Versus declared that Malkin was reading his opponents so well, that it was like he had a "Malkin Mind Meld" on them.:lol::lol:
