Sovereign class vs Galaxy class

No heroes on either ship.
Well, what I wanted to allude to with my question is that it really depends on the imagination of the writer (who would most likely let the ship with our heroes onboard win). Garrovick was more frank about it, but basically said the same.

I mean, I could easily write you a story wherein a single escape pod believably manages to destroy a whole fleet of Sovereign class ships. Really, it wouldn't even be that hard to do that. I'm not saying that it would be a good story. What I say is, that I could write everything that I want.

The thing is, in the end these ships are all fictional and their features are just as fictional. So there's really no way to tell which ship would win.

I've always thought that the Sovereign class was much more combat oriented then the Galaxy so I think the Sovereign would win.

This is a pretty common debate.

I'd rather see a discussion about who would win in a battle to the death between Andrew Probert and John Eaves. For the sake of an even battle, they are both armed with lirpas and are fighting an a stadium or colosseum.

I'd say the sovereign. It seemed like the more combat oriented ship (more so after the Nemesis upgrades).

I'd put my money on the Sovereign if their crews were evenly matched. 10 years more advanced than the Galaxy and armed with quantum torpedoes and apparantly better phasers. She also seemed to have better manoeuvrability...plus we never saw one fall to a Bird of Prey.

i wouuld think the sovereign would win.the galaxy class was built at a time of reletive peace so there would be less emphasis on the combat capabilities, not that they were crap but starfleet would probaly have thought more in terms of exloration.however the sovereign was built after the borg attack of the 2360's and thus would have incoperatated the lesson learned brom that encounter as in sytronger shield better weaponary etc.well thats my theroy anyways.

Same here. I thought the Sovereign class was designed to help combat the borg threat while the Galaxy class was more geared towards exploring.

Now how about a Galaxy that had a ''Sovereign'' refit? wasn't there a line in DS9 about the Galaxy & Excelsior classes getting Sovereing style weapons systems?

We saw one instance of an uprated Excelsior but I don't think they even said the word Sovereign on DS9.

The Galaxy is more massive than the Sovereign so it would have more room for weapons and shield. We did see a "super"-Galaxy in "All Good Things", which easily torn through two Klingon warships.
