Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global at $218 M

:)

Star Trek was only going to be shown at the local cinema for two weeks (until Wednesday) in English.
They've now added showings at least through Sunday once a day. Previously Night at the Museum (English version) was going to be shown in the late night slots, but they've been replaced by more Star Trek. :techman:

Just been on Box Office Mojo. The overall box office is good, but the film's only made 25% of its total global gross outside of the US which is very poor. It might yet improve, but to even reach Trek's historical average of around 36% is going to take some doing now after a week and half of release.

Still has not opened in Japan nor Mexico.

Kind of begs the question as to how much Trek stands to make in either country; Japan I see as pulling more in, Mexico not so much.

Yeah - I see Japan as a more high tech country where the average IQ is going to be considerably higher than in Mexico. I am sure this must factor into the box office.

Interesting in Australia Star Trek earn 2.7 million, while A&D earn 5.2 million. Currently on 8.8 million. Not sure if it can beat the X Men Wolverine movie, as that has made around 16 million so far. Wolverine had more screenings than Star Trek did during the weekend also.

In comic book/sci-fi movies they are about equal in importance. They tend to garner between 10-14 million gross of a big blockbuster's final foreign take each in this genre.

IM would be an exception in Mexico where it made over $19mil.

It's got no chance in hell of catching Wolverine. It has had superior per-screen ratios for the last two weekends, so hopefully it is Wolverine that gets bumped for the new films.

Actual was a little over 43 Mil. Very nice.

Saw it a third time today. Theater was packed for a 4pm show in a small town. It is still very odd seeing a theater full of Abercrombie kids giving Star Trek a standing ovation at the end.

I've wanted my crowds to clap, but not so much as one person in the two showings that I've been to.

I've gone six times and every time there has been applause at the end. It's actually getting really weird because I wasn't expecting it over a week after release. And the number of people applauding on Sunday was more than on opening night, when I would have expected the rowdiest crowd.

Go Deutschland! Word of mouth spreading to Europe... :)

This is good news for me, too, and my family. I took my sister to see it last night (in English), and the place was packed; on a Monday. I was impressed. My parents are coming over and I plan to take them to see it, too. They are curious about the German dubbed version, however. *sigh*

And yes, people are still clapping at the end, and laughing at the jokes. And here I was, thinking the Germans were uptight and had no sense of humour. :D :p

I have seen it on Sunday (for the third time) in English and the room was at least 3/4 full - on a Sunday.
And no one got up until the credits started to roll - the white on black, not those with the space-animations and the Courage-Giaccino-themes-mix :) - not bad for a German audience.

Three times for me, but same experience.
