Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel..

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

I'd be fine if Tim Burton directed it. He'd probably make it in the same lines as Abrams did.
Tim Burton? I like his work but this is absolutely in opposite direction of overall Trek and JJ's. If it had to be anyone else, I could see Ridley Scott or James Cameron maybe, but that's it.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

Abrams annoyed me with his constant use of the shakycam.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

I wonder what strings would have to be pulled to get Nick Meyer back behind the camera.

That would be fascinating as a Vulcan acquaintance of everyone here might say.

Nick Meyers is like Abrams minus the lens flares and shaky cam... :p

Hey, he directed II and VI, both very successful and visually pleasing, so he wouldn't be a bad choice.

I just think Abrams has a more dynamic style that would suit the next movie; the public seems to love it, so why mess around?

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

I would love to see Spielberg take a crack at a Trek film. I think the time is finally right for something like that to happen, where a director can really put their own stamp on it and not be bound to everything that's come before.

However, Spielberg is at a point in his career where he doesn't just direct a film that someone else is otherwise in control of. If Spielberg were going to helm a Trek feature, he'd be the top dog, he'd choose the writers, and his people would be producing. I just can't see a situation where Abrams & Co. develop the story and produce the film and Spielberg just acts as a hired director. And I'm sure with the performance of Trek XI, Paramount is firmly in the Abrams camp at this point.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

If you get a Klingons vs. Federation military oriented story, I would look for Paramount to pay Spielberg the money to direct. Abrams to produce. Orci and Kurtzman to be forced to write a much tighter and much more three-dimensional script.

People will expect "Dark Knight" this time. That's why I just don't expect them to do Khan again. People want new directions.

You COULD get away with the Doomsday Machine, with Tom Hanks as Matt Decker. Hanks is the only one who could fit into William Windom's shoes.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

The two writers will be back am in no doubt of that and am pretty sure J.J will do a sequel since his company Bad Robot are co producing the movie anyway so he can hire himself again as Director if Paramount doesn't .

I could maybe seeing him not doing 3rd because if 2nd one is loved he might not want to risk falling into the bad 3rd movies trap.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

It seems likely that Abrams will be back for #2 at least, but I wouldn't panic at all if he simply stayed on to produce. He's obviously an excellent producer, for one thing.

Abrams specializes in gloss, high-speed action and catchy hooks. Perfect for the reboot, but a director with a different sensibility might work well in the sequel.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

Someone talented and versatile.

Michael Mann, or Peter Weir.

I can dream.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

They should hire Ratner, McG or Michael Bay.
Oh what the hell. Get all 3 of them and have them co-direct.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

I think JJ Abrams is assured to return for the director's chair. I just get that vibe from that recent MTV interview, and it just seems...the most logical choice.

He'll probably stick around for one more film after that, completing the trilogy, and then Trek might spin-off into a television series or whichever.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

Man, I normally don't like Spielburg and I would be ecstatic if he took over instead of JJ :(

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

As long as the lens flares are toned waaaay down I don't care who directs it.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

Considering he's been involved in so many movie slately I don't doubt it

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

I liked it for being a breath of fresh air into the franchise.

Aslong as they keep that up and keep people into it I don't care who directs it.

Sometimes I wonder are ppl mad at JJ or is he just the figurehead for the change some see as the rape of trek.

I think he did a good job reviving a dying franchise and that speaks for itself IMO.

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

I would love it if Spielberg directed a Trek movie. That would blow me away.

I want JJ Abrams to direct this next movie but I would be thrilled if Spielberg direct the movie!!!!

Re: Crossing fingers JJ Abrams doesn't let someone else direct sequel.

It was a good film, but I couldn't care less if he returns or not. It might even be nice to see one of these that doesn't have blurry, shaky, overexposed, lens flared headache inducing action in every single one of it's six hundred billion hyperpaced, intercut scenes.
