Foreign $Numbers$ are in!

All the previous movies are bad movies.
For instance, Paramount never demanded that the producers and script writers introduced the characters in a way that a newbie could relate to. Instead, they excluded too many by appealing to pre-sold trekkies.

What?

Decker, Ilia, Saavik and David were all introduced to add new young characters to the franchise. Xon was prepared as a character and not used.

I agree. I meant the main characters, though. I don´t think they ever introduced Kirk, Spock, Picard or Data in the previous ten movies really well for people that just wanted to see a good sci-fi movie. You really had to have seen the shows or a couple of movies before to understand them. I have heard this quite a few times. For instance, a friend of mine, who wasn´t familiar with Trek, told me that he fell asleep the first time he saw the Wrath Of Khan. But when he got into the show he did enjoy the movie.

Therefore, it was a blessing that JJ Abrams made this movie since he also found the characters hard to relate to. And I think he did a great job making Kirk and Spock accessible to a broader audience than just trekkers.

Why did Star Trek never appeal to the foreign audience?

Star Trek does appeal to foreign audience. However, it doesn't appeal to station managers, being a science fiction programme, which means it ends up aired on 1:50 AM (if ever that). Do you realize there are still countries that didn't have original Star Trek in the air at all? Consider that for reply.
