fall sci fi series

I read somewhere that Day One was going to be a 2010 midseason replacement. Is that the same for V?

CBS

Are you kidding? Sci fi scares them.

Star Trek is a hit now! So coming in the fall of 2010...

CSI: Risa
SCIS: Starfleet Criminal Investigative Service
Cardassian Minds
Without a Warp Signature Trace
Borg Whisperer
Two and a Half Andorians

V was enough of a phenomenon back in its day that I think the ratings are pretty much a guarantee for this outing.

ABC also picked up:

Eastwick

Desperate Housewives, with witches rather than the other word. ;) Notable cast: Rebecca Romijn, Veronica Cartwright.
Wsn't Veronica Cartwright in the Witches of Eastwick film? [imdb check - yes, she was].
Anyone know if she's playing the same character (I have a feeling she can't be as ISTR her character died, but haven't seen it in years), or if it's just an actor getting another role?

From The Hollywood Reporter:

We may have the winner in the "Chuck vs. the renewal" face-off as early as Sunday.

Sources indicate that the bubble NBC dramedy with strong Web following is close to a third-season pickup.

Veronica Cartwright played "Felicia Alden" in the movie and is credited as "Bun" (???) on the TV series. Other than "Daryl Van Horne" (Satan, I presume), the character names are different.

With Reaper probably toast, too bad they couldn't cast Ray Wise as Daryl Van Horne. :D

Daryl van Horne is indeed the Satan character that Jack Nicholson played in the film.
Another thing it'd be interesting to know is whether the series takes anything from John Updike's sequel novel The Widows of Eastwick. I'd guess probably not, and that it's based purely on the film.

Also in the wings somewhere is Ron Moore's Virtualiy and then of couse that Star Wars live action series currently casting adn in pre-production

I thought Virtuality got dropped back into development hell? (not least with the US Life On Mars having pre-empted it)

Most of those series look interesting.....I hope Day One is nothing like that bloody awful Jericho series.

Virtuality's pilot will air on July 4. That's most likely an indication that it won't go to series, tho who knows with these wacky networks. If Fox would renew Dollhouse (my new gold standard for wtf-ness) then why not take a chance with Virtuality?

Fox may even be testing the waters by airing it on the one night when only the "RDM bootlickers" :p would bother watching. The notion that cultish genre shows might be worth cultivating seems to be gaining traction among the networks, which is a nice development if true.

As for live-action Star Wars, maybe that will be a fall 2010 debut because it sure isn't showing up on anyone's list for 2009-2010 midseason.

A few more, the first two are courtesy of an upfront news site I just stumbled across.

AMC

The Prisoner
- A remake, for good or ill, of the classic series, but filmed in Africa and probably significantly altered in tone and content. A miniseries, it will air in November 2009. Significant cast: Jim Caveziel and Ian McKellan.

A&E

Night Falls
- The Jekyl/Hyde story, this time retold w/a NYPD cop who gets his split personality when he's shot in the head. The fact that the personality only emerges at night (somehow triggered by nightfall) puts this squarely in sf/f territory. The casting apparently hasn't been done yet. I recommend they find some guy as close as they can get to Michael C. Hall. :D

HBO

Game of Thrones - Drama based on the best-selling fantasy series. Significant cast: Peter Dinklage in the lead role of Tyrion.

I don't think HBO and Showtime have upfront presentations. They just announce pick-ups, renewals and cancellations throughout the year whenever one arises.
