The Hulk's live-action status?

Ok, both Hulk films were mostly box-office dissiapointments, despite the second film getting better reviews. Ed Norton has been unhappy with the way things were done, and presumabely won't be reprising the role as Banner. I don't see Bana doing it again either.

However, it's been assumed that the Hulk will be in the new AVENGERS movie. Question is, how? Will the Hulk be Hulked out the whole movie (Which could make the budget skyrocket), or will Bruce Banner be recast a third time?
 
Not sure I've heard that Norton was unhappy with the End Result.

I do remember hearing there were some difficulties before the film was released, but those issues were said to of been addressed. (Unless that was just a PR Band-aid)

Can anyone point to a link where Norton expressed dissatisfaction with the Film's Execution after the fact?

I for one really enjoyed "The Incredible Hulk" and I thought Norton did a great job as Dr. Bruce Banner. It will be a shame if they don't go back to it at least referentially at some point during "The Avengers".
 
I haven't heard the status of Hulk lately, but I agree it would be a disappointment to not see Norton reprise the role. I think that the film was highly underrated, and Norton was great in it.

Most likely one of the main reasons we haven't heard what their plans are for Hulk in the future is probably because they themselves don't know.
 
It really depends on the story line they are going to follow. In the "classic" story, Banner serves no purpose. He has much more to do in the "Ultimate" version, though that story line would take much longer than 2 hours.
 
What's likely hurting Hulk the most is that Marvel Studios isn't doing it alone; Universal still has rights in the live action movies. As a result, Marvel is likely getting less of the pie, so they aren't going to be as encouraged to co-finance another Hulk venture given the box office performance.

Universal returned the film rights early to Marvel Studios in return for a deal that Universal would distribute The Incredible Hulk with Marvel financing the film (Universal had no interest in financing or co-financing it themselves). The film was self-financed by Marvel Studios, just as Iron Man was. The only difference is that Universal distributed rather than Paramount.
 
The Hulk will always be hampered by being a movie in which the main character is only as good as the special effects technology creating it. Have you tried watching the first Hulk flick recently? Even ignoring the lame storyline, the monster FX are pretty damn bad. It's cartoonish.

Disagreed, the FX (especially in the desert scene) are still better than anything the new movie came out with. PLUS, they did something with that Hulk that they couldn't do in the movie. They had him ACT. And EMOTE.

Regardless I enjoyed both movies and really hope that things can be worked out by the time Avengers is put together.

Norton ONLY has publically expressed some dissatisfaction with how the writing credits were handled and a few creative choices. He has publically stated he would LIKE to reprise and refine the role.

Please provide proof of the suppossed unhappy/unwilling to return to the role statement you make as if it were fact.


Both movies did have marginal success so its not dead as a franchise. I frankly think the Avengers movie is the first place they can give us a Hulk that is most represntative of the character.
I've been reading the Marvel Hulk Essentials and am nearly done with volume 2. Meaning I'll have read 50+ early Hulk stories from the mid/late 60s. The Hulk in the movies is not an interactive character whereas the Hulk of the comics, then or now, is a fully integrated and interactive character. Whether that be in Savage child like speak or Professor version. The movie Hulk has been nothing more than a 2-dimensional boogeyman.

The Avengers movie can give us a Hulk sans Banner, or little Banner, that battles and verbally as well as physically engages the Avengers.
 
The Hulk'll show up in The Avengers, and Marvel will probably make an Incredible Hulk 2 after that. Tim Roth and Tim Blake Nelson seem excited about the prospects, and it seems as if Nelson is doing everything he can to get Norton onboard.
 
REALLY? I remember watching a program on Film4 (I think it was) dedicated to the new film and Ed Norton exclaimed how he liked playing the character and wanted to pick the role back up in the second movie, along with helping out with the writing process again.

I could have sworn they were starting to write the second movie and try to release it before the Avengers movie. I for one loved the new Hulk movie and though Ed Norton was simply at his best.
 
I quite enjoyed The Incredible Hulk...thought it was a decent action flick that also managed to set things up for the ineviable Captain America and Avengers movies. For some reason I think Marvel is going to adapt the Ultimates story combine that with the 616 origin somehow and have both Hulk and Loki villans. I also remember reading somewhere shortly after TIH premired that Ed Norton had signed on for The Avengers or was in negotiations, or maybe he was just considering the notion. I find it curious that Tony Stark approached General Ross about putting a team together...I thought Nick Fury was putting the team together, maybe he just appeared at the end of Iron Man's credits to plant the idea in Stark's head and have him go and recruit.

Yeah, I've heard that, too.

To my understanding, the last I heard, that will likely be the only place we see a live-action Hulk on the big screen.

Really, that's fine with me. There's only so much you can do with that story.

To me it seemed like Stark had joined the Avengers and now he was active in the recruiting.
 
From what I have heard was there was some legal BS and they were thinking about not making a sequel. This was shortly after the movie came out.

Then there was nothing, now there are rumours they want to wait until after The Avengers and they aren't in any real rush.

I think this is what they were aiming for when the film was first released, but the unspectacular box office caused such a propsective film to get placed on the bakcburner; presumably, they'll look towards reviving it if and when a successful Avengers film gives the character new impetus. Which I'm fine with, really; for such a young studio, Marvel already has a pretty ambitious slate, and having Hulk do some teamwork in an Avengers film could be a lead-in for a film where the Hulk himself has more agency than just smashing things.

As long as a sequel has grey, red, purple, orange, teal, and burnt sienna Hulks in it.

And She-Hulk...

If they want to be cool, Iron Man 2 opens with Iron Man busting the Hulk. This would follow a trend of movies who's first 15 minutes are better than the film that follows.
