Primeval the movie?

^It's not necessarily a dinosaur movie. It's more about anomalies opening in to the past/future, so anything from history, or anything they can make up from the future can come strolling through.

yeah, thy've done Dodos, sabre-tooth cats, a knight from the Middle Ages and a dinosaur he thought was a dragon, a mammoth and a whole slew of future critters...

granted I was having some fun, with the Lost reference, and it probaly wont be set on an island, but dinosaurs = £ (or $ & €) even the TV show that has a varied amount of creatures can often be summed up as being about dinosaurs.

I would be VERY surprised if dinosaurs did not feature in the movie, now if we are talking epic trilogy type movie, there is no reason they cant visit other time periods in sequels, or have other creatures appear in sequels, possibly even the Future Predator (actually I would be disappointed if Future Predator didn't feature in a movie), but dinosaurs are a really easy sell, they could be crazy to not feature them.

I think they could introduce a whole American team and have the Brits come in as the experts, laying the ground for a TV show made by BBC about American characters.
im not sure where this came from, but by BBC do you mean BBC America, as im pretty sure ITV would have something to say about the BBC making a Primeval spin-off.

I think it's just that all of us non-Brits see everything made in England as being made by the BBC.

Except for Benny Hill because I always remember seeing "Thames Television" and hearing that distinctive music.

Yaketty-sax!

Primeval is made by an independent company, Impossible Pictures, and the idea for it came about when they were making a science-documentary series called Walking with Dinosaurs for the BBC, and realised that if they could put convincing CGI dinosaurs in prehistoric landscapes, they could put them in the present day. The idea was initially offered to the BBC, but in those pre-Doctor Who days, the answer was 'no'.
So ITV doesn't own Primeval; it probably has first refusal on future series, but if ITV let it go, then it could be picked up by the BBC, Sky... (I'd add Channel Four or Five, but they have even less money than ITV right now, so no chance). Same goes for any film.

The concept really doesn't work without British quirkiness. Adapt for here and you might as well cast Sam Neil, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern as the leads.

Looks like people may not have been far wrong with speculation in this thread.

From Digital Spy

ITV sci-fi show Primeval could soon spawn a spinoff series, it has been claimed.
The programme's franchise is already expected to undergo significant expansion following the news that a movie version is being produced by Warner Bros.
Jonathan Drake and Tim Haines, of Primeval's production company Impossible Pictures, have now reportedly started making plans for a second new project which would take the show's mythology beyond the UK - possibly for a new US-based series.
Primeval sees a team of experts battling prehistoric and futuristic creatures who reach modern-day Britain through time portals known as "anomalies".
The original version of the show currently airs in the US on BBC America.

But then it's not attributed to anyone so it could just be bullshit taken from anyone's speculation online.

The Hollywood Reported ran a story about Warners picking up movie rights to Primeval...

So it's (apparently) legit.

now that Mr Pretwee is what giant maggots should look like, however thinking about it im not sure if they were linked to the Future Insectoid or not, given that we saw baby ones being born out of a human body, so maybe they were just Future Maggots.

meanwhile where did the new girl get her toast & jam from? and why was the death of the soldiers guarding the anomaly discovered sooner, im no military expert, but wouldn't they have to contact the ARC of at least a superior to let them know that everything was alright every couple of hours? and thinking about it, is it just me or was the anomaly open for nearly a full day in this episode? dont they usually shut down within a few hours? that said its possible the strange girl, did something to make it stay open longer.

and a covert team headed by an evolutionary scientist tries to close the doors and quietly thwart the creatures.
shows what Variety knows about Primeval

Ok, good news and bad news...
Good news is that, courtesy of a press launch at the Cannes film festival, there is definitely a Primeval movie in the works, to be made with Warner Bros (of course, it could still spend five years in production hell before it actually gets made).
Bad news: it's going to be written by Akiva Goldsman. Now he does have a few thumbs-ups to his credit (A Beautiful Mind, and The Da Vinci Code is at least enjoyable rubbish, so it was an accurate translation of the book), but he also wrote Batman Forever, Batman and Robin and the Lost in Space movie - all of which mean that if he's responsible for a big screen version of Primeval, I'll wait until the DVD is in the three-quid sell-off basket before I endure it...
Why not just let the writers who're doing the series pretty well write the movie?!!!! [Rant mode off].

I enjoy Primeval (haven't seen S3 yet however) and would love to see a big screen version of the story. However, the fan in me would much prefer that this be "in universe". They can easily just have the UK crew make a quick cameo via webcam or something and toss some advice out. It would take all of five minutes and not detract from the story at all. Heck, even them reading an email from one of the characters from the BBC show would work.

That said, I suspect they will go the "full reboot" route if this comes to be.

Sorry to go all British TV Nazi on you, it's not a BBC show, it's shown on ITV.

um, you watched Robin Hood and Merlin lately? i'll admit, i like both (and Primeval) but let's be honest, they're pure hokum. which is WHY i like em, good old-fashioned Saturday night adventures with hissable villains and noble heroes and rollicking action.

Merlin and Primeval are better than Robin Hood, but I still watch that too, mostly cos my nieces want to watch it, but good old family fun is worthwhile.

and Merlin, Robin Hood & Primeval are all 100 times better than Demons, I actually enjoy all 3 shows.
