Have you turned your A/C on yet?

We have the furnace on right now, below zero this morning when I woke up. But even though there have been a couple of hot days this spring I haven't turned on the A/C in the house yet.

I did run it once in my car already.

A/C and heating are controlled by something in the residence hall. We can make it slightly cooler or warmer by ourselves with the controls on the units by the window, but not by much (or at least not with mine. I have it set to the warmest setting and there's still cool air coming from the vent. And sometimes when I want it to be cool in here it just doesn't get cool enough.)

Im in NJ, we had a couple of days a few weeks ago where the temps shot up to the high 80s. SInce i live in an attic apartment, it was like a furnace. I actually went out and bought two new window units. I'm all set now for summer!

I think we're still expecting a frost tonight !
Anyways, I don't have an A/C, and there's maybe only 10 days a year where I wish I did.

Yes! But ours fucked up this evening and Dad had to call a repairman out here pretty quickly..but it was just a bit of allergy buildup and crap in the pump, plus some water that he had to flush out..the system itself shut down so it wouldn't cause an over flow of water in the attic! But now it's running again and I'm not hot anymore. It was 75 degrees in here earlier and to us, that's hotter than hell. We usually keep it around 70 or below that during the evenings to keep us comfortable when it's time to go to bed.

The windows in my apartment are all on the same side of the building, and I can't leave my door open because I have a cat. Therefore, it is impossible for me to get any kind of breeze, so I've had my A/C on at random times over the last couple months.

My apartment is almost too well insulated, so it gets really warm really quickly.

If your apartment is so well insulated it should be just as effective at keeping the heat out in the summer as it is at keeping the cold out in the winter.

So if your apartment gets "really warm really quickly" in the summer then it's poorly insulated (unless you have the heat on inside!).

Or there is no airflow and it catches all of the daylight sun.

This is exactly it. Silly sun.

Some thermal curtains will help alleviate that problem, even in the summer.

I haven't turned it on yet, probably won't have to the entire summer. Didn't last summer. If it really starts to get uncomfortable I might though, the option is there at least. I need to buy some window fans and put them in the windows, that will probably be enough. I'm trying to save electricity to keep my bills low.

Haven't put it back in the window yet. We've had one 90+ degree day but other than that it hasn't gotten over 80. I try to minimize use of it to save power anyway.

leaving windows open really isnt an option for me.
for one thing i just dont feel safe, maybe if i lived in an aparment on the second floor i would.
the other is we have had very high pollen counts.
bad for someone with allergic asthma.
but i have only turned it on few times when it was in the 80's.

and yeah humidity makes a difference,
we have had massive amounts of rain so on the days it didnt rain and got hot the humidity was awful.

It got into the 90s here near Boston for a few days so I installed our ACs then. By nighttime we were mostly able to get by with windows open and the fan on, but my dog spends the day in the house and the temperatures were in the mid 80s then so I had to run it to take some of the edge off for him.

Can't wait for another summer of $200 electric bills. Ugh.
