Shatnerverse comics... Would you like to see them?

Would you like to see comicbook adaptations of the Shatneverse novels?

In the event of THE WRATH OF KHAN being adapted into comic book, and be published as part of an omnibus of TOS Movie Comic Books, and keeping in mind that the first Shatner/Reeves-Stevents novel was adapted into a comic book... Would you like to see some of the other Shatnerverse stories adapted?

I'd certainly to see all of them adapted, but if not, I'd keep it a minimum and have THE RETURN and AVENGER adapted. I'd even have the Mirror Universe trilogy adapted too, but I think the other two would be fine, and with a few adjastments, can fit with the established Trek universe greatly.

(Said adjustment would include trimming Worf's part in Return, or even removing him alltogether, and toning down the finale in it, too).

Anyway, what do you think?

No, thanks. I've already read the Shatnerverse books. Let the comics tell stories I haven't already read. (No, I'm particularly excited about finally getting a ST TWOK comic adaptation, either.)

Yeah I would not mind the first two trilogies adapted, but to be honest there are many other books I would prefer to be adapted ahead of Shatnerverse books.

Such as the Destiny Trilogy & Vanguard

I have a two word answer for this, starts with an F and finishes with an O!

if anything, I would love to see a Vanguard or Titan mini-series from IDW, but a new story, like what was done with the New Frontier mini.

Personally, I'd love to see THE RETURN and AVENGER adapted, as those two could bring back Kirk in the comic book world in a satisfying way. Then you can kill off Kirk in a more satisfying way, in a comic book follow-up to AVENGER, as a prequel to COUNTDOWN.

Point is, RETURN and AVENGER set up Kirk's re-appearence in the Prime Universe and not in a bad way. Then, you can lead into COUNTDOWN with new stories set after the said novels.

Not that I would be against any TNG Relaunch novel comic-book adaptations, of course... Its just that at least one Shatnerverse novel has been adapted into a comic book, and given that it and RETURN-AVENGER are part of the ODDYSSEY omnibus, it'd be fun to see them produce a comic book out of a novel series where Kirk comes back from the dead, in a story thats well-regarded by fans, and would make money solely on that pitch.

Note that I didn't say that it should go for all of them - even if I had loved that dearly. Just stating that it'd be unique, and after AVENGER, it could lead to COUNTDOWN with original storyline(s).

"The Return" and "Avenger" are well regarded by you. I loved "The Ashes of Eden" but Kirk's the enemy in "The Return" and implausibly resurrected a second time in "Avenger", the beginning of six more Kirk/Picard buddy-fest indulgences.

In any case, why must Kirk be back in action in time for "Countdown"?
To challenge the former B-4 as captain of the Enterprise-E?

I doubt it. There is a good number of Trek fans that didn't like Kirk's demise in GEN, and thats not talking lightly.

First of all, no, they're not well regarded by me only. And second, Kirk's not resurrected for the second time in AVENGER, just kept from dying thanks to Hugh and co. Also, Kirk being the enemy in RETURN is part of the tension, to see if he can be turned or not. And when he's not, and reunites with his friends (as seen in my sig), its really great.

I didn't say he had to be alive during that time. AVENGER takes place in 2373, COUNTDOWN takes place in 2387.

IDW could, if they wished, to do their own original adventures for Kirk during that period of time.

As long as they're well done, I'm OK with it. I am a bit baffled as to why people who love Trek in TV and movies turn up their nose at comics, which are also a heavily visual medium.

I voted against seeing them. I don't much care for comic adaptations of novels, even the Star Wars or Star Trek ones. New Frontier is the most comic-like of the books, and I'm glad to see original NF adventures in comic form.

I agree about NEW FRONTIER. Its great that we get to see their adventures, rather than just read them.

Still, I am for a couple of Shatnverser-novels comic book adaptations.

I love Trek in TV, in movies, in books, and in comics. I don't see any pressing need to have Star Trek comics that are adaptations of novels any more than I see the need to have Star Trek novels that are adaptations of comics.

Tell the story in the medium it's best suited for, and don't tie up limited spots in publishing schedules with stories we've already read.
