The Kobayashi Maru test.

Ok, so "New Trek" changed the details of it a bit, but we were introduced to this test in The Wrath of Khan as a situation to teach cadets about the "No Win Scenario."

The cadet (playing the role of captain) is presented with a situation - a distress call from a damaged freighter -the Kobayashi Maru it has drifted into the Klingon side of the Neutral Zone. The cadet has two choices. He can cross the Neutral Zone to save the ship's crew (violating treaty and getting blown up by three Klingon warships cloaked on the other side) or he can let the crew die when their ship explodes or suffer the fate of being captured by the Klingons.

What would YOU do in the Kobayashi Maru test?

Me? I would beat it without cheating (like Kirk did.)

Hail the KM and ask them for the transport exact coordinates of all members of the crew and ask that none of them move an inch.

Ready those coordinated into the transporter.

Warp in to a position right next to the ship, as soon as I'm out of warp, Energize!

As soon as the beam up sequence begins, I instantly warp-out at Warp one while firing a large slavo of torpedos and multiple directions -as well as at the KM. (not only to destroy the ship but int he "hopes" that the stray torpedos will find the Klingon ships).

Touch-and-go-downwarping.

Trekker wins.

Trekker wins.

Assuming that you don't blow right through one of warbirds surrounding you and blow up everything, sounds fun.

I'm pretty sure the test wouldn't allow you the ability to not be surrounded by the warbirds. In other words you warp into a certain spot as the beginning of the test.

I would offer the Klingons some prune juice. While they were drinking, I'd beam the people over and be done with it.

If you were to try to do that, I bet the simulation would say that there was a spatial anomaly in the region that meant you couldn't transport from the distance you would need to to stay out of the neutral zone.

ETA: this is in response to Trekker's first post
