What happened to the USS Farragut?

Captain
In the original timeline I believe this was Kirk's first assignment.

Was this ship even mentioned in the movie? As much as I liked this movie, it is increasingly far fetched that Kirk went from a rogue cadet directly to Captain of the Federation's newest flagship. What would have been more realistic is Kirk serving aboard the Farragut before getting caught up in this adventure. I do realize however that a movie can only be so long, so I have no idea how this arc could have been written in anyways...

This promotion was pushed hard and accelerated by Captain/Admiral Pike who obviously has plenty of clout within the Federation, but I still would like to hear thoughts/theories that would make this very fast promotion to Captain of the flagship more believable...

The Farragut was mentioned in the film. It was the starship that Uhura was the be assigned to communications aboard. It was destroyed at Vulcan.

Captain Robau never lived to design it. It would have been the first Federation starship to incorporate a goodass badass intermix chamber.

Edit: Ah, I just saw that it was already built; Fair enough, but it will never get to experience the benefits of a badass refit.

The Farragut was the ship Picard hailed to beam he and Riker up in the final scene of the Generations movie, from the rubble of the Enterprise D was it?

All I know is that Uhura did not like it. Did you hear the way she spoke its name?!

Yeah, I was wondering, "Is the Farragut a garbage scow or something?" She really didn't seem to like it. As if it was the joke ship of the fleet.

It made it to Vulcan with the rest of the fleet and then hid from the Enterprise when they got there only to be never heard from again?

I mean I guess maybe they got smart, ran a Sensor Sweep and decided to rendevous with the main fleet, but thats far fetched.

We don't know that for sure.

The ships the cadets were being assigned to were going to Vulcan according to dialogue in the film. Since it was going to Vulcan it was destroyed by Nero.
We don't know that for sure.

Yes we do, it's said in the film that the cadets are being sent to Vulcan to help with the emergency. All ships sent, minus the Enterprise, were destroyed.

Truth is, it could have showed up late, or been diverted, or simply evaded the danger... Since there was nothing protecting Vulcan, apparently, the Farragut clearly wasn't there. :)

Didn't Uhura's roommate/Kirk's would-be Orion sex toy end up on the Farragut?

Why do I think that you're merely trying to spam the board suddenly?
Just because you disagree with me does not mean that I am spamming. I think that's a very immature accusation.

And I find it immature when people don't pay attention to the dialogue of a film. Guess we're even. Try debating a point next time rather than simply reposting the same thing because it's spamming by definition. I don't care if you agree with me or not.

Back to the original question: It is said in the film that the cadets are being deployed to Vulcan by the Academy Commandant. Uhura was being assigned to the Farragut, thus she was going to Vulcan. The only Federation ship to survive Vulcan was the Enterprise.

It wasn't specified which ship she was assigned to.

Anyway, to answer the original question; You remember that piece of debris that scrapped the Enterprise's port nacelle? Yeah, Farragut.
