I think I just wanted a "Call me Jim" line from Kirk after Spock insists on addressing him by his rank. I mean, I'm hardly worried about it, but this would have been a little nod that I would have liked to see. From then on, if Spock calls him "Jim," it would be fine.yeah, but unfortunately these writers can't lay it out like in a novel where over the course of a 100 pages spock and kirk become good enough friends for Spock to say "Jim".
It has to come sooner.
Bingo - this is what Star Trek is now, and for the immediate future - movies around the two hour mark. They don't have time to lay out years and years of friendship leading up to moments like this - in 'movie land', things happen faster than on TV or in books. Friendships, relationships, they have to evolve faster, become meaningful to the characters quicker. Otherwise, you're 5 movies in and still the characters don't even know each other's first names yet.
Well stated. I agree. Call me Dave btw.
