Fanboys rejoice!

CPLG has also brokered a deal for the "Haynes Enterprise Manual," a unique collaboration between long-standing master publishing partner Simon & Schuster and Haynes Publishing, which will be brought to market in 2010. Recognising Haynes' unique approach to global phenomena such as STAR TREK, Simon & Schuster gave their blessing to the collaboration in an unprecedented move.

In turn, Haynes has created the ultimate guide to the ENTERPRISE, applying its famous 'step-by-step' approach of stripping the mothership down to its essentials and reassembling it with detailed illustrations under the expert guidance of editors, consultants and artists.

This is an absolute shocker. Never expected this! Is this for real?

That is a shock. I had assumed that the license for all print media tie-ins was held by Pocket Books. Or is the license given more broadly to Simon & Schuster, who then decide which imprint to publish under?

Very, very good news! Now the article mentions this is a Europe-based publisher doing the project. My question is: how readily availible can we expect this to be here in the US?

Doesn't Haynes specialize in all those car repair manuals?

Apparantly so. From the article it sounds like their Enteprise manual will take a similar approach, which should be interesting.

On my earlier comment: reading the article a little closer, the licensing company is in Europe, but Haynes seems to be a US publisher.

So since this is being driven by the popularity of the movie, the assumption is that it's the JJPrise they're diagramming?

Probably a safe assumption. Should be interesting since all we've really seen other than the exterior is the bridge, sickbay, a transporter room, a bit of engineering and a lot of corridors.

I've just seen one they've published for a Supermarine Spitfire.

Could be interesting, but if it's like any of the normal Haynes books, it's going to be quite different to the older Trek Tech manuals.

Doesn't Haynes specialize in all those car repair manuals?

Yep. They're really decent if the factory-published manual isn't available. They've helped me along with many a repair to RX-7's and CRX's over the years.

Cool. Hopefully this will sell well enough that we could get some new non-fic Trek books.

I for one wonder if the Special Edition of the DVD will have a sequence with Kirk furiously flipping through said Haynes manual while
trying to figure out how to get Scotty out of the water piping in the Enterprise brewery, er, engineering...

Pocket has an exclusive license to publish fiction and non fiction publications. Sounds like they were approached by Haynes, and Haynes is prepared to take the losses if the book doesn't sell.

As similar arrangement would be needed if ever Pocket Books was to do a "Visual Dictionary", since that concept/format belongs to DK (the former Dorling Kindersley).

I'm very surprised those two aren't already out - The Dark Knight made sure they were ready for co-release.

No such book has been released because, to our knowledge, no such book was made. This tech manual is the first one hears of any non-fiction book concerning the new film.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

It's good to see this movie is setting something in motion also in paper already.
I have been missing some new "tech"-side pubblications for a while. I'm a sucker for Art-Book, manual and all this non-fiction stuff!

That's... interesting. A tech manual for the one Trek property with no remote regard for plausibility and explanation. At least the Enterprise cutaway diagram will be entertaining.

Makes me think Haynes will next tackle Fred Flintstone's car. At least there won't be much argument about how warp and impulse work on that one.
