I have some super good news everyone! I could have included this in the previous car warranty phone scammers thread, but I didn't want the good news to be lost in the shuffle.

Something is finally being done about these awful calls, thank goodness.

The Federal Trade Commission has started investigations into several companies involved in the deceptive calls, and the agency expects to bring cases against them within days, Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Mark Warner, D-Va., said at a news conference. The FTC also is providing a link on its Web site for consumers to file complaints.

Apparently they made the mistake of actually calling the Senators on their personal cell phones. It wouldn't surprise me if Obama himself got these calls in the Oval Office. They seem to care very little about who they call and how many times you tell them you want to be taken off their list. Their practices are obviously illegal and the article said it's been going on for two years!

Well hopefully it will all be over soon.

They're robocalls, so it isn't like someone is making a list saying, "Oh wow, President Obama's name is on the list!"

^That's my point, they don't know who's on the list because they don't actually check the numbers at all, so they could call pretty much anyone in the country who has a phone.

I find it odd that I've never received such a call on either my land line or my cell phone. I have, however, received many postcards in the mail. The very first time I got one (this was probably 8-9 years ago) I called and when I realized what they were trying to do, I hung up, and I've never responded to one since then.
