In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movie.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

We actually did see some Vulcan red shirts on screen; a couple of red-robe council elders got the ax when the cave was falling in on them.

Nice one with the big statue of some revered ancestor cracked him/her over the noggin among other organs.

Ah yes... Olsen. If ever there was a red-shirt that deserved their horrible death, it was he.

What a dumb-ass.

He was an idiot.

Though so was Pike for not putting a little redundnacy in his plan by giving everyone some charges, rather than hedging his bets on all three making it to the platform alive.

It was a hurried half-assed plan; one that seemed destined to fail. And so it did.

Was it me or did the three go through re-entry pretty easily with little or no thermal effect?

Poor guy. There were a few laughs in the cinema at his demise. In retrospect, it was brazen stupidity that killed him.

Have to wait and see if they give some background in the novel on Olsen's madcap dive; right now, it makes no sense.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

It was like he went completely out of his mind. Space dementia? I assume Starfleet doesn't routinely admit total nutjobs.

Yeah. That was pretty sweet.

A redshirt could hardly ask for a better death. :techman:

And what a great, horrific death Olsen did have.

That thrill seeking lunatic who waited til the last possible moment to open his chute, then didnt. Ha Haaaa, first red-shirt of NuTrek down, thousands more to go.

I saw it coming as soon as Pike drafted the away crew. Briliant.

RIP Olsen, we will erect a plaque in the memorial garden at Starfleet command.

*Salutes*

It didn't look like they were traveling fast enough to burn up. They were falling at sky-diver speed, sky-divers don't burn up as they jump out of planes, and the away team didn't either.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

Alas, poor Olsen, we hardly knew ye...

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

His death was sort of funny, even I had to laugh.... and I wasn't laughing with him. What a wanker.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

I was hoping someone would bring this up. When it happened I almost blurted out loud "Hey, the Red-Chute died already." Did anyone notice the specifically colored parachutes they had, or did I imagine that?

Sky divers don't go through an area of no air resistance to lots of air-resistance. -Which is why things glow when they get to re-entry. The friction of suddenly moving against air.

I couldn't help but "see" the Stone Trek "red shirt death" sign pop up on screen when Olsen died.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

Supposedly Greg Grunberg was going to play Redshirt Olsen but had to pull out because of a scheduling conflict. Anyone know if this is true?

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

Olson, you tread the line between bravery and gung-ho assholery well for the few moments you were part of Trek canon. You were doomed the instant we met you and we knew it. Sorry we couldn't manage to care more. RIP.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

Pike: "Kirk, I want you, Sulu, and Engineer Olson..."

Olson: "Aw, crap..."

I heard it's because the spacesuit didn't come in jumbo extra-wide.
