NuKnightrider UK

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
Did a search, couldn't find anything. Anyway just to jump in and say the new Knightrider starts tonight on Sci-Fi at 8pm.

I'm sorry, but by orders of T'Baio you may no longer refer to it as "nuKnightrider". Please find another way of referencing it or we can't help you.;)

How about Failed Knight Rider Reboot #4? (After Knight Rider 2000, Knight Rider 2010, and Team Knight Rider.)

Sorry about that, thought that was the trend these days for remakes. Watching the pilot last night made realise why it was cancelled, but it won't stop me from watching it.

Just one question though that I'm not sure might get brought later in the series but what happened to the KITT AI from the Knight 2000 car, was it transferred to the 3000 with a different voice modulator or was it just wiped clean?

Actually the series was heavily retooled from the pilot, so you can't draw that conclusion. After the pilot, they brought in the guy behind those The Fast and the Furious movies to ramp up the action and dumb down/sex up the storytelling, and they retooled the premise so that Mike and KITT were working for this massive 24-style government operation with an ultra-high-tech control center. Three new characters were added and a couple of characters from the pilot movie had their roles diminished. A lot of the character backstory from the pilot was glossed over as well. Aside from having the same cast, the movie and the series are extremely different.

Of course, midway through the season, it was working so poorly that they revamped it again, writing out three of the regulars (including two from the pilot cast), ditching the government organization (but somehow keeping the HQ), and adopting a format more like the original show. It didn't help much.

The new KITT was very much not the same person as the old KITT. He was a new, "young" AI who started out with a rather basic, cold personality and learned and developed more "humanity" as he went. In fact, the series was pretty inconsistent on whether it was even a continuation of the original show or not. The new KITT was repeatedly described as a new, unprecedented breakthrough in artificial intelligence, as if the old one had never existed, even though the show was nominally a continuation of the old show and Hasselhoff had even appeared as the original Michael Knight in the pilot movie. There was never any mention of the fate of the old KITT.

I hear that the old Kitt was salvaged, lobotomized and cloned, and then installed in a number of new car models. "Your door is ajar. Your door is ajar.":guffaw:

The closest thing we have to the fate of the original KITT was you can see what appears to be the outline of a Trans Am in Charles' garage/lab in the pilot film and various parts that look like they come from KITT (the steering wheel, KNIGHT plates).
