Closing credits: Cheese or Glory?

Glorious! Loved the music, and the planet visuals. I've been waiting 40 years to hear Sandy Courage's theme music in all it's pumped up, fully-orchestrated glory.

While I appreciated the inclusion of the old theme and even the old way the credits were presented, I thought they went a little overboard with it. The sequence was just a bit too long IMO.

Also, while I loved hearing Nimoy's voice-over again... combined with the old theme... I don't know it just didn't work for me. Less homage would have been more here.

I loved the visuals. I was thrilled they decided to go with the eye candy type end credits that a lot of the bigger films do these days. Rather than just white text on a black background.

The visuals matched the film. Fresh, colourful, dramatic.

Understandable. It did repeat several times. I'm one of those that loved the full press treatment of it though. I'm glad it didn't switch back to a more modern score after a quick reprisal of the original theme as I expected once I'd heard it once.

My first Trek movie in theatres was The Undiscovered Country, still my favourite Trek film probably partially for that reason, but this one brought back that WOW glory I experienced then. I can't articulate it yet, but I felt the passion and experience from the moment this film began, and the original theme ending it in grand style was perfect for me. (And I didn't even consciously notice the old style credits presentation until this thread. )

This. I LOVED the space vistas. They reminded me of some of those art pieces by Greg Martin, only on a theater screen. Awesome stuff.

The music... was a mixed bag. On the one hand, hearing the "Star Trek" theme (specifically, the beginning part, the bit that you can hear at the very beginning of the TOS and TNG theme songs during the initial Enterprise flyby) was great, but the actual TOS theme song, the one derived from the "singing angels" tune... not so much. Okay, I will admit: including that music there was probably a good idea. It kind of "had to be done" at that point. And I respect it from that standpoint.

Having said that, I really can't stand that theme. But it's inclusion didn't bother me in any real, significant way. I just groaned when it came on, then shrugged and enjoyed the rest of the credits.

Oh, and for the record, my feelings on the movie as a whole:

I stood up and walked out of the theatre enjoying the afterfeel of the great experience I had way too much to pay any attention to the credits, so I have no idea if I'd like them or not.

Didn't fit in my opinion.

I liked it, but it felt out of place. I'd have preferred a few more musical cues dotted throughout the picture.

I liked the counter-melody to the theme though.

The closing was enough to make me want to buy the soundtrack for sure just so I can hear it all again. Problem? NOBODY HAS IT IN STOCK AROUND HERE!!!

I don't like the idea of buying it on iTunes because then it's entirely digital and you can't burn it to disc to have a hard copy.

Probably will end up ordering it from Amazon.

HOW CAN NOBODY HAVE A COPY OF IT?!?!? It's not like Trek's popularity suddenly surged or anything, is it?

I thought it was awesome. When I told my friend that they hadn't used that since back in the 60's, he was wondering why since it was so distinctive.

I liked the idea of using an adapted TOS theme but the execution left a lot to be desired.
