I would have liked to have had one last good TNG movie, but I'm not going to complain about what we got. The truth is, TNG just wasn't as commercially viable as TOS was. I mean, how many references to TNG do you here in pop culture? Not many, just about every Trek reference is from TOS. Recasting Kirk, Spock, McCoy and company was more marketable then doing another one with Picard, Riker and possibly Data. Look at the number of "reboots" and re-castings going on right now. Star Trek was due to follow.

Who knows? Maybe one day we'll get a TNG sequel to the new TOS films. Who knows? It could happen, and if done right with tweaked characters and just as much energy as the new film, it could be as successful as this new Trek.

I'll be honest and say I have been calling for recasting TOS for a long time. No, not Starfleet Academy (hated that idea) but I always thought a good well casted nuTOS (I was against casting big names in these roles; only unknowns would work -- IMHO) would be the way to save Star Trek.

Everybody for years acted like that was sacriledge. Well, it's not...and as we see now -- it can work!

I agree with what you say 200%, but the problem with actors interfering in Trek began with the TOS films. I thought around the time of Star Trek V, they should just recast the whole thing! The actors demanding more money was the reason Shatner ran out of money on Star Trek V. That's why he didn't get his precious rockman ending.

I never liked any of the TNG movies, however I loved the series - probably one of my favorite series of all time, not just Trek wise either. There's still time, since all the actors could still reprise their roles, but I doubt we'll get one soon, if ever.

I have had employees who act like that and once they do, no matter what they do after all, I always think of them as a 10 year old. To act like it is ok to take yourself and your ball and leave because you dont get everything you want is obsured, even if he is Patrick stewert he should be a grown up.

First Contact was a great story, great movie, and I really enjoyed it. Ron will go to all ends to appologize for Generations, but do you see Bret or Patick even giving a damn about Insurection or Nemesis.

I thin part of the reason Franks didn't get the Nemesis job was because TPTB were hopping it would put P&B in their places.... didn't work, but still.

I wish that Erik Jenderssen's movie about the Romulan War had been made instead of NuTrek. I think it could have pulled in a mainstream audience by being a sci-fi action movie like Terminator but would have been better than a light-weight reboot for the kiddies.

It was a decent reboot but I thought the new Spock was lame and the villain's motives were ill conceived (read: a huge, retarded overreaction-- "Oh boo hoo, my sun went nova and SPOCK ITS ALL YOUR FAULT"). Otherwise I had no real problems with it.

Considering there has only been ONE halfway decent TNG film - First Contact (the rest came across as LOUSY TV episodes filmed for the large screen); a most definite NO.

They couldn't make a TNG film that was as entertaing as this Star Trek film was; because in all honesty, none of the 24th century shows were/are as entertaing or re-watchable as Star Trek (TOS) was (And I saw TOS season 3 first run, and did watch TNG and DS9 in their first run syndication and enjoyed yjem at the time; but for me they do not have the re-watchablity that TOS still does).

Are you kidding? Stewart and Spiner had more clout on Nemesis than any other Trek film. They had direct story input. In fact, writer John Logan was a personal friend of Spiners. That was no accident, believe me.

But, I get what you're saying...and I agree with you. The actors should act and we should have real directors and real writers working on these films.

Thus we got a ridiculous scene where a shuttlecraft flys THROUGH the corridors of the Romulan Ship and out through what essentially was a 'piture window' on the ship...

And Spiner gleefuling patting himself and Logan on the back for coiming up with this crap over a 'simple phone call'.

That was one of the few scenes in the movie I actually liked, but you're that the actors shouldn't write the story.

You probably would get a TV miniseries or a TV movie out of that, but in no way would Paramount sink feature money into something that said "Star Trek" and be all about brand new characters and situations.

As far back as 2003, Paramount was talking about doing "Star Trek right", after seeing what reboots were starting to do. IMO, that would mean that they would not be interested in dipping into untested waters for the next Trek project.

After the letdowns that were Insurrection and Nemesis? No.

They had their chance to give us an excellent final voyage for TNG crew and failed MISERBLY. That failure was part of the reason why Star Trek had to go on hiatus for so long.
