Wolverine was a huge success, regardless of its mixed reviews, so like all things in T-town, you keep pimping out one idea until there's simply nothing left. Hugh Jackman's solo Origin's flick was already an offshoot itself, so now it's time for a spinoff of the spinoff, if you all are following.
Ryan Reynolds has already scored the next movie, and Fox has 87 million reasons to ride this X-Men franchise out.
So what's next? Another rip-, I mean spinoff, obviously. We're getting dizzy thinking about it. And the front-runner for the next flick is...
Taylor Kitsch as Gambit.
When we talked with producer Lauren Shuler Donner at the Wolverine premiere, she told us that they were currently in the middle of "internal discussions" about who would star in the next film, and that they would hopefully be deciding in the next month.
Looks like things went much faster than planned, thanks to Reynolds' hit performance.
At the time, when we pressed Lauren to see who she would like to get the solo shot, she told us "Deadpool," (Reynolds' character). Ladies do always know best about man-muffin situations like this, right? And it looks like Laur wasn't the only one pushing for Reynolds.
Since originality has faded about as fast as Lohan's career, we knew we wouldn't be jumping the gun when we asked Donner who the next next star would be.
"I think we would all love to see more of Gambit," Lauren said, rather knowingly.
This geek babble is over our head, but as long as there's a hot shirtless guy like Jackman nearby, we're in.
My god and it's only been a week What next? a blob movie? Zero? John Wraith? Kitchen sink?

Somehow these spin off movies "cheapen" "X-men Origins: Wolverine" into nothing more than a "spin-off breeding ground "

From some other threads i've read, some people don't think Gambit is strong enough for his own movie.

A Gambit movie could be cool, but you'd have to recast the actor for Josh Holloway from LOST :p Just imagine a Gambit movie about him working for Sinister and participating in the Mutant Massacre but then he falls in love with Rouge and joins the X-Men. Could be cool. Mainly for Sinister. Could lay the ground work for an Apocalypse movie :D

I've always hated Gambit. Never understood the love. ah, well, Ten bucks saved is ten bucks earned.

A big ole pass.

Why not? Aren't the point of most super hero movies to spinoff for more movies? That's what studios think.

LOL! that's like saying the $1 fries at mcdonald's has "cheapen" the $1 double cheeseburger. it's cheap already. and xmen origins: wolvercrap is not the "spinoff breeding ground." that title belongs to the main x-men title. frankly i'd rather see that deadpool movie than this.

can't wait for x-men: first class. a fresh new x-men... at least until they introduce wolvercrap and he craps on the movie. sigh....

Actually X-Men 4 is supposed to be made featuring an all new cast of young 90210 freaks.

Deadpool better sure as hell have Squirrel Girl... :D

Gambit... I dunno if he works as the focus of an entire movie. I honestly thought Gambit as presented in Origins was kind of lackluster. He didn't have a woman to play off of and those interactions are a main part of him in the comics and almost every animated version of him tends to convey those as well.

Even Wolverine & The X-men which has changed a lot and built up it's own kind of alternate universe version based off of different elements of the comics had Gambit flirting with Polaris.

Got to love Gambit just cause of his cards. I would like to see him in another film. But i would like it to be mor of an ensemble cast and be beter written.

The guy who played Gambit wasn't terrible if he was, I don't know, Cajun ;)

Seriously, though, I definitely could see Josh Holloway doing a good job in that role. That story isn't a bad idea either.

If they do this, I can pretty much guarantee that Gambit will be recast with a bigger name. They did it with Sabretooth for this film...

Gambit was OK in the film but I don't know if he can sustain a film (especially without Rogue); I don't know or care about Deadpool at all.

Wolverine's excess undercut the implication of the first X-Men movie that mutants were relatively recent phenomenon, at least in terms of being noticed, so more action prequels would probably hurt this even more.

Gambit is a fairly generic "charming rogue" character. On the one hand, there's no reason to think that he's any worse than any other charming rogue characters, and the history of cinema is full of great movies featuring that kind of protagonist. On the other hand, there's not much there that could hook a general audience.

I'd be much more interested in a Deadpool movie than a Gambit movie. I'd like to see the Mithras saga adapted as a Deadpool movie. Gambit was cool when I was twelve but these days he doesn't thrill me that much.

Why cant they just make a real X-men 4 and have Bryan Singer direct it like he did the first two? I mean X-men 3 was not a great movie but it did make alot of money so there must be interest.

What is the Mithras saga?

Basically the first twenty-five issues of his first ongoing series when Joe Kelly was writing the book. Deadpool is told he's some kind of cosmic messiah figure called the Mithras, and he tries to be a hero. But being Deadpool, he goes about it all wrong.
