NuEnterprise = Refit? [mild spoilers]

Well, since neros entrance resulted in the deaths/relocations of a lot of people, the effects of all that could be realized in the form of a 'different' Constitution class-if the Constitution as we know it even exists now.

Think of it like this-Assuming someone from the Kelvin would influence the Constitution design,an engineer who 'would' solve a sticky engineering problem on the prototype Connie class instead gets blown into vaccum by Nero .So now the project is delayed, which changes when the ship is finished, which leads to better tech to be fitted, and so forth, leading to a ship that's 'like' the Enterprise but could never be exactly like the old ship due to changes in the timeline.

Also-remember Archers Enterprise still applies here,so before the Kelvin was built Enterprise would represent a flagship name.

Its a personal theory, but in this reality I believe Enterprise is her own class instead of being a part of another ship group, since we never hear a reference to the latest 'X Class' ship, its simply Enterprise.

Which ironically would make sense that the Abrams' Enterprise would have 'been' the Constitution.

Some of the website materials (and I think I spotted it in a display on screen at one point, but I could be wrong) retain the Enterprise as Constitution class.

So the one good thing that will come out of this movie is that nobody will have to listen to TOS ENT designer Lawrence Marvick shriek like a girl when it comes time to remake IS THERE IN TRUTH NO BEAUTY in this knockoff of reality.

[...] knockoff of reality.

Reality? I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the old universe could hardly be called reality. It's still fiction, just like the star trek universe. :D

howzabout 'knockoff of reality from the trek universe' ... any better? (my 9th grade teacher was really big on leeching and splicing out prepositional phrases, so this is just adding one back in, to spite her and for your benefit.)

I was joking, it wasn't funny. I know. :D

It woulda worked better (for me) if you'd said 'sorry to burst your WARP bubble.' (only in trektech, though.)

Its star trek, Jim, but not as we know it!

This cannot be justifed by any means. its a new trek, its an updated trek.

Has there been any word on when there will be "official" specs/drawings/cutaway on the NuEnterprise released. (So that I can officially gripe )

I'm still kind of confused on the size now since they "gas lighted" us and moved the bridge down & forward.

I believe that the build delay is enough to justify the change in appearance. The build delay could concievably be the result of a design delay (perhaps the original Connie design was heavily related to whatever design the Kelvin was and they had an "oh shit" moment when it got pwnd?).

The design certainly seems to have a different mission than the 1701 Prime. The Nu1701 has a larger saucer and larger nacelles, suggesting a much larger crew compliment and significantly different engines (whether they're superior or not... isn't quite clear). The armament seems to be significantly different as well, from what I can tell.

So it's an intermediate design that never got built in the Prime Universe. Problem solved, brilliant, let's go grab a sandwich.

My take, too. Split a turkey and swiss?

Hmm, seems the JJ-prise is about the size of Ent-D if thats so then its hardly possible for it to be a refit of the original Enterprise...

...Unless the original Enterprise was much bigger than we thought, too. In that case, it was TMP that got the size completely wrong, not STXI.

There are some hints to the size of the TOS ship, but nothing concrete. The connections between the inside sets and the outside model are close to nonexistent: the one likely scale-establishing feature, the shuttlebay, is triply useless because the interior miniature utilizes forced perspective to couple with the outside, while the shuttlecraft miniature going with the interior miniature is in turn coupled to the live actors via a false-scale prop and a false-scale interior set!

Some aspects of TOS engineering would make more sense if the ship indeed were about 2,000 feet long, not 1,000. Even the TMP ship would work better if it were somewhat more than a thousand feet long - and all designs related to the TMP ship would then better match their evident size in TNG reappearances. I doubt a middle ground could be found where TOS, TMP, TNG and STXI could all be accepted together, but the effort could theoretically be made.
