Re: Actors you would like to see in Star Trek 12 (2?)

For a remake of "Balance of Terror" for Star Trek 12:

Hugo Weaving as Romulan Commander
Hugh Laurie as Romulan Centurion
Liv Tyler as Romulan Sub-Commander
(I imagine they would all have names in the new screenplay)

And in addition to Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Bones, Chekov, and Uhura, I think Eddie Cahill (CSI:New York) as Lieutenant Stiles.

Perhaps even a flashback to the Earth-Romulan War on Captain Stiles' ship. (John Leguizamo as Captain Stiles)

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

I'd rather not use any villians or challenges from TOS, such as the Doomsday Machine or whatever. If I hear Khan one more time, I will be very upset.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

My vote is that while out exploring some uncharted region, they come across a derelict ship floating aimlessly in space. A close-up on the shot shows the name Botany Bay. Hilarity ensues. Or maybe their first encounter with Trelane.

Most likely, though, I think it'll be a reimagining of Balance of Terror. Even though Nero "stood apart" from the Romulan Empire, that's not going to make the Klingons happy that 47 of their ships were vaporized by what everyone seemed to recognize as a Romulan vessel (despite it being a heavily Borg bastardized mining ship from the distant future), and I'm sure the remaining Vulcans will be "encouraging" Starfleet to confirm that the Romulans didn't have anything to do with the destruction of their whole damn planet. Since it's likely that the Federation still hasn't had contact with the Empire for some time, it leads up to a strong possibility for the Balance of Terror scenario. And since that includes a rather epic (if slow moving) space battle that is also a fan favorite of the original series, it's a pretty big candidate for the next movie in my opinion.

Or at least for the A plot anyway.

Regardless, it's definitely going to be some major moment from the original series.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

To the person saying Pike should do more, I can think of only one way they could do anything with Pike outside of making him an "M" or "Commissioner Gordon" type character. It's an idea I like to call:

The New Menagerie AKA "Spock Caged": I have this fanon idea that "The Cage" still happened. Y'see, "The Cage" happened in the Prime Reality in 2254, since the Enterprise had already been launched by then. But in the altered reality it's 2258 when the Enterprise launches. So you'd think that "The Cage" never happened... BUT, remember:
-Pike is Earthbound in 2255, doing recruiting. He apparently does not have a ship, he's apparently waiting for the Enterprise to finish up. But I doubt he'd be getting such a great gig as the Federation Flagship without having done some great stuff before, no matter how good that dissertation about the Kelvin was.
-It is noted in the movie that Spock was one of SFA's most distinguished graduates and that he'd been doing Kobayashi Maru programming for 4 years (since 2254, when he'd be about 22). Yet I doubt that a "graduate" would be considered "distinguished" if he was on Terra Firma most of the time: Spock must have had some time aboard a operational vessel seeking out new life, etc. etc.

So here's what I think happened:
-So anyway, here's my idea: In early 2254, Captain Christopher Pike, aboard the USS Yorktown, traveled to Talos IV with a young Half-Vulcan named Spock (straight out of the academy!), a intelligent woman named Number One, etc. What they found there so shocked Starfleet Command that it was classified to only the highest ranked of eyes, and a General Order (7) was put out: anyone who visits or approaches Talos IV FOR ANY REASON will be put.... to death.
-Pike, however, was so affected by the experience that he decided to transfer off the Yorktown and instead do recruiting for SFA for a few years, and eventually become the captain of Starfleet's new flagship, USS Enterprise.
-Spock just plain old went back to SFA and became a instructor for a few years. He so impressed Pike in early '54, however, that Pike decided he'd be the First Officer when the Enterprise launches.

So anyway, here's my idea: The (23rd century) Romulan Empire (although you could easily replace it with Klingons, Tholians, Orions or Gorn) has decided to take advantage of the UFP's weakened situation (no more Planet Vulcan, many Starships destroyed, Earth having been attacked, etc.) and make a grab for power by raiding the outskirts of Federation territory and attacking Starfleet ships that dare to explore beyond the safety of the Federation. The Enterprise, having begun a 5-year mission of exploration, would be surveying a previously uncharted world (one that is uninhabitable but contains highly valuable resources) a couple LYs away from Talos when the attack comes. In the heat of battle, Kirk would be forced to leave the shuttle containing Spock, Uhura, Nurse Chapel and Ensigns Deadmeat, Cannonfodder and Cupcake behind, but would make a decree that he will come back for them. However, the problem is that the shuttle does not have enough supplies etc to last very long, so the shuttle has to go to the nearest M-class planet.... Talos IV.

There would be two threads: There'd be the general action of Kirk and rest of the Enterprise crew trying to fight off the Romulans/Klingons/Gorn/Whatever, and there would be the drama on Talos IV, where Spock and friends would be once again mentally probed by the Talosians (Spock, of course, would no doubt be taunted with images of Vulcan, his dead mother and having to choose between Uhura and Nurse Chapel, who would be the more logical [no pun intended] love interest for him). Then of course after the RomuKlinGorn raid is over there would be all the arguments between Kirk, Bones and Starfleet Command over whether to go rescue the shuttle. Kirk would win this argument, and if he didn't he'd just go anyway.

It'd never happen, but I think it'd be pretty cool.
Not bad. I could live with that, but where does Pike fit in? Or would he be in flashbacks to the Talos "Yorktown" mission ala The Menagerie?

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

There's no point trying to shoehorn The Cage in.

Since Pike wasn't burned with the Radiation in this timeline; he won't be taken to Talos to end up with Vina..

Thus, from a narrative point of view... there's no point.

Plus, Pike doesn't have a close relationship with Spock in this timeline. Instead, it's with Jim Kirk.

I think it's nice that they gave Pike a chance to live uninjured in this universe.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

There's no point trying to shoehorn any pre-existing plot in.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

Yep. I'm against pre-existing plots.

I like cameos by familiar characters but we need completely new plots; thats the point of rebooting trek and a new universe.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

Ok, this is going to sound like the cheesiest answer, but I'd like to see a lesson. Not a heavy-handed one, but at least an underlying message about tolerance, friendship, hope, etc. It's something Star Trek has always been good at.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

Here's a villain suggestion I don't think anyone else has thought of yet...

Black Ire. The Prime Directive novel made him out to be the Keyser Soze of the Trek universe, then it turns out to be Bones in disguise. Left one thinking, was Black Ire just a nonexistent boogeyman that others (including Bones) used as window dressing, or was their a real Black Ire out there somewhere, yet to be encountered by our crew?

Quite a wealth of material from those novels.

Re: Actors you would like to see in Star Trek 12 (2?)

The UNDERWORLD fan in me thinks Bill Nighy or Michael Sheen would make a great Trek villain.

Re: Actors you would like to see in Star Trek 12 (2?)

I'd like to see that cheerleader from Heroes (Hayden Panettiere?); she's a cutie. And should be around 20 right now. :D

I think she'll do fine as an ensign or something. As long as it has a miniskirt. :D

Yeah, Bruce Campbell is an inspiring choice!

He would never agree, though. I don't think he would want to do Trek. He's not a fan.

They offered him a role on DS9 (as "Jack", the leader of the Jack Pack) but he turned them down. So he would probably do the same for this.

Re: Actors you would like to see in Star Trek 12 (2?)

In the next movie, the Enterprise will have to stop the rise of the dead, lead by Supreme Badass Leader Robau and his band of badass awesomeness played by Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Michael Madsen, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Wesley Snipes, Kurt Russell, Tony Todd, Denis Leary, Kiefer Sutherland, Edward James Olmos and Jerry Springer.
