Saavik out of uniform

I read the novelisation just before the film came out and I haven't read it since, so I can't recall if they explain it or not. However, I presume it is part of the uniform and not off duty. I presume this because in that scene Kirk comments on her hair, and she replies, "It's still regulation, Admiral". This implies to me that she's on duty, or why would she feel the need to remind him that her hair is still regulation?

Page 53 of the novelization trilogy omnibus ("Duty, Honor, Redemption"):

"The doors opened obediently, sighing. Lieutenant Saavik dashed inside."

No clothing description.

She doesn't care what people think of her weight issues.

She got real big. And then she got back in pretty decent shape a couple years ago. But then I'm pretty sure got big again.

Yeah, she got big after her deal as the poster girl for Jenny Craig ended. Apparently they've invited her back (as a client, not for their commercials).

She's on Oprah...today, I think...to talk about her weight problems. I saw promos during Good Eats - that's how I know. ;) In the promos, she looked heavy, but otherwise quite nice. It helps to have your hair combed, for example...

No offense, but she's broad-shouldered-and-narrow-hip-proportioned like a teenage boy in that photo.

And her face kinda looks like it belongs on a dude.

Yeah, while I like her, I always thought she was rather manly looking.

Holy crap, so that's why I used to have a crush on her but don't like girls - she looked like a dude. :rommie:

And 'Fat Actress' was pretty funny, btw.

^ Yeah, and I wish her the best of luck. It is an uphill battle.

As for this scene, I always thought it was a martial arts uniform of some kind.
That being said, this thread title disappoints. :D

At least Saavik is wearing pants. :D

So's Ilia in this gum card pic:

If anybody is interested, the people on the right side image are members of the Federation Diplomatic Corps. The gadgets on their left sleeves are part of a three part translation system that would have included a wand like translator as well as an earpiece of some sort (that may be what the masks that two of them are wearing are - I don't remember if that is the case). One of the guys is seen in the San Francisco scene walking in front of Kirk's Air Tram right before the door opens.

I think it was some form of off duty outfit. I remember in the novel she had just come from Peter Preston's room, they had developed a friendship between them. Before he died of course.
