Now I know why people associate spicy foods with heartburn...

Never had an adverse reaction to any sort of spicy foods before. My digestive system is just fine for the most part. But a few minutes ago I just randomly suffered some acid reflux after eating buffalo wings for dinner... OMFG!!! IT BURNS!!! I've never felt my throat burn so bad in my life, and I know it had to do with the spiciness of my dinner this time!

To make things worse, I can't find any Tums in the dorm! Geez I hope the market's still open...

Just another one of life's little lessons learned... the hard way! (But man were those wings worth it!)

I get heartburn whenever I eat anything spicy or drink red wine or whiskey. I carry around a pack of rennie to be on the safe side now.

Telling me to drink and eat more? Are you absolutely sure that's wise?

Just more spicy food. :p And have a glass of milk to go with it. Trust me it works to soothe a burning throat. Water's the worst you can have.

Milk is good, I was also told that pepper mint helps and I suppose it does for a little while, but I'm not convinced.

I don't typically keep milk in the dorm, since I don't like drinking it that much and I have a feeling I might be slightly lactose intolerant (though I only really get the symptoms occasionally when I eat ice cream...)

Bought a big bottle of Gaviscon. I'm good now. :techman:

I agree, and two words on the spicy front: Thai Cuisine.

(Disclaimer: I do like Thai food, but one day I ate a Thai hot pepper on a spicy fish plate in one bit. Big mistake. Armageddon landed upon the inside of my mouth, lining of my throat, and my stomach simultaneously).

Spicy food can cause heartburn. Man, this internet thing might just take off if it keeps providing helpful tips like this.

Yeah, I've done the same before. I love spicy food, and I love Thai cuisine, but that was... a bit much, to say the least. ;)

Now, imagine that the heartburn is caused by a chronic condition, and you need perscription medicine on a daily basis to treat it.

Welcome to my world.

I haven't had pizza, lasagna or spaghetti, or soft drinks in twenty years.

Wthe the exception of plain tacos (meat, cheese, and lettuce), If I ate mexican food, I'd drop dead.

Or you could just not eat spicy food. I have very little tolerance for the spices and it baffles me why people enjoy it so when that burning sensation always strikes me as very distinct from the actual taste of the food. I'd enjoy the taste of some spicy foods if it wasn't for the fact that I can't enjoy the taste because a layer of my taste buds has been burned off.

Blasphemy!

The only way to increase your tolerance is to eat more spicy food. Spice adds a great new dimension of flavor.

You're white aren't you?
