The Amazing Race - 5/10/09 - FINALE - (Commentary/Discussion)

Well guys, this is it, the FINALE for TAR!

SEASON FINALE

When Karma attacks - One team's rage against taxi drivers around the world comes back to haunt them. Two teams put their friendship first when they set aside the race and help each other finish a task. One racer's constant nagging while searching for a clue causes their partner to lose their cool and in an unprecedented finale, the final three teams find themselves racing neck-and-neck in their last task on the road to the million dollar prize.

Who are you rooting for? Me, I am rooting for Victor and Tammy.

you know what, they said that there would be less taxi's in this season, cause last season it was a LOT of taxi driving, but this season they still used the taxi's a lot, i wish they had the teams drive more

"You need to tell your people that I am not their personal concierge!" Yes! :guffaw:

I don't know... if I'm in a taxi it's probably because I don't know the city I'm visiting and I'm expecting you (the taxi company/driver) to know where the hell you're going and/or find out so I get there as fast as possible. So yes, while I am in your taxi, you are my personal concierge.

That being said, it just perfectly sums up their experience with taxis this race.

Yep, this leg would have been a perfect opportunity for them to do some driving. That way Jamie and Cara could bitch at each other instead of the poor cabbie of the week. :p

Well that ended up about as I expected, and glad Tammy and Victor won over the other two teams.

The run to the finish line was a bit anti-climatic. I miss the long runs to the finish line. I also miss the 2 hour finale's. I was like, um, ok, I guess that's the finish line, a taxi ride to it, no having to find it or anything, just seemed easy.

Agreed. It just kind of happened.

Eh, I hated it because it was fake drama. Yeah, it was well edited, but still I'm sure in reality a lot of those taxi chases weren't as close as they were represented.

Also, I'm glad that they've inserted the memory test at the end. Clearly, the teams know to study for it now so it's a real mental test. At the very least the physical teams don't get an automatic advantage over the weaker teams.

Still, in an example of bad filming/editing, they spoiled the ending in the episode. You could clearly see Luke crying in the interview segments where they describe what happened during the leg. Of course, that's the only time they'll be able to interview the teams, but still... they probably should have waited for Luke to finish crying before asking him to describe the surfboard test. I'm sure they've made mistakes like that before, but this is the first time that it was really obvious that the interviewed team lost the race.

Also, back to back sibling wins. Yippie. No incest vibe from them though.

Yeah, definitely an anti-climactic finish. When I checked the time on my Tivo during the surf board challenge, I realized there wasn't going to be any sort of exciting finish.

I didn't really care for the setup of the finishing leg (seemed too compacted), but I'm glad with the order of the finish.

Not that I expected it, but it would have been nice if Luke had complimented his mother on her racing other than to point out how her signing helped him out. She was a pretty tough racer (by far the strongest of the remaining women) and often times carried their team.

Did we really get to know Margie at all during this entire season? It seemed like she served as a conduit for Luke, and that's sad because she was a tough racer. She deserves some credit and I don't think she's going to get it.

Agreed about this episode being anti-climatic. It just seemed like after the road block it was just a formality. Actually having to find the finish line would have made it much more exciting, kinda like the final episode in season 2 where it was a footrace to the line. Overall though, I liked this season, even though I agree there needs to be more driving and self navigation. Also, I wish they would have kept with the timestamps to see how far back the racers were.

I totally agree with you all to the anticlimactic nature of the finale - I had a feeling that Tammy and Victor would come in first when I saw the interviews of the other teams while the challenge was still onging. I'm glad it was Luke that did the surfboard challenge - it was his race to lose and, unfortunately, he did. All of the teams should have at least bicycled to the finish line - a taxi was just too convenient.

I'm glad that T & V won, but I have to give the girls props for helping Luke after he helped them. That little trade-off was a nice gesture.

I agree, but I wonder--if that had been a regular leg, and not the end of the race, would either team have been penalized for that? It was a Roadblock, not a Detour, so I don't know if there are rules against teams working together on them.

Of course, we don't know just WHERE on the golf course they were dropped off. It would have been hysterical if they had to start running at the first hole and look around the entire course for the finish line.

Too bad the cheerleaders are now destined to be single their entire lives. Every guy should see a montage of them before asking them out. (Although Cara wasn't nearly as bad as Jamie)

I wonder, some teams must have given at least verbal hints during roadblocks - "It's over there! Go that way!"...
