McG gives info on deleated ''Darker'' T4 ending.

That would have been terrible. I'm a sucker for happy endings and though I don't expect that from Terminator, I do expect something that won't throw me into depression.

http://io9.com/5246360/mcg-spills-the-extra+dark-terminator-ending-you-wont-see I don't know about any of you on these forums, but this ending would have sucked dragonballz! I'm glad they shelved it for the new (and hopefuly better) ending. Plus I got tired of how depressing NU-Galactica got, I'd like to get just a ''little'' hope in my entertainment now, HELL not even real life is THIS depressing ALL of the time!

Agreed. I would not have liked that ending much at all.

On a lighter note this MAY be the alternate ending owners of the novel will be treated to on May 21.

I would be into the second ending, with a John Connor Terminator leading The Resistance to victory. That would make for some really interesting sequels.

But, the first, where the JCT kills everyone? That'd be really WTFmate? unless an adequate amount of resolution played out afterwards.

When the original ending was written they weren't sure if they would continue on after this film. I can't go much more in detail about the Marcus character, however, and the motivations.

John Conner getting killed and replaced with a look-alike Terminator which continues to lead the resistance? That's certainly... interesting. Could work brilliantly or fail completely, I'd have to see how it would be handled in the film to know for sure. So do we know if this whole aspect of the ending is completely gone from the movie or not? Nah, never mind, I think I'd prefer to be surprised.

I have to admit, though, if it does happen, I'll be curious to see if the general reaction to it is more favorable than the reaction to Sylar-becoming-Nathan has been. :p

I agree, though, that the John Conner Terminator killing the rest of the characters would be just a tad too bleak. I don't normally mind some darkness in my entertainment, but this sounds like a bit much.

that ending would haved made the point to the whole terminator franchise moot

Not the one where John Connor's identity is taken over by a Terminator and he goes on to lead The Resistance.

Instead of the story of a man born to save us, it would become the exploration of the power of myth and symbol.

In fact, it still plays into the Jesus allegory--the man would still need to exist to become the basis, but it's not necessary the actions he's been been said to have done were actually done by him. The idea of the man would be more important than the actual man.

I think it could be a really ballsy, interesting place to take the Terminator movie franchise.

I think I might have liked the 1st ending, just for the fact that it does basically screw over everything and would piss off the diehard fans.

Not only that, but it would be akin to Empire Strike Back, where the bad guys come out on top at the end of the movie. That makes anticipation of the sequel a more relished event.

True. And it makes Connor more of a mythic figure cause then we get into the question of what's more important the man or the message. Can the resistance survive just on Connor's message or did it need the man himself to survive.

The one thing I do like about all this is, it shows they're willing to at least contemplate taking big risks with the franchise, and that's cool. Playing it safe is boring. I'd rather see a huge risk taken that destroys the franchise than...well, T3.

I can't see them making sequels with either of those "darker" Terminator Salvation endings.
Work has already begun on a new film and, based on the early comments I've heard, I would have preferred the darker ending.

Skynet learns how to transport metal through time and sends an army of Terminators, Hunter Killers, Harvesters, etc to our time.

wouldn't that ending also fuck with film canon? (the first mentioned ending, I wrote something similar to the second one years ago, i have about 12 short stories that I'm thinking of getting the terminator license and publishing)
