A question about Fan collective: Captain's log

The Fan collective: Captain's log is a DVD set containing 3 episodes from each of the five series, 1 of them is the actor playing the captain's favourite, and the other 2 are supposed to be the fan's favourites. My question is: where did they find out which episodes are the fan favourites? Because a lot of these eps seem a bit out of place:
TOS
"The Enterprise Incident"
"Balance of Terror"
TNG
"Chain of Command"
"Darmok" :vulcan:
DS9
"WYLB"
"In the pale Moonlight"
VOY
"The Omega Directive" :vulcan:
"Flashback" :cardie:
ENT
"First Flight" :vulcan:
"These Are the Voyages" :cardie::cardie::cardie::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Though the choices they made for DS9 and TOS seem to fit with people's opinions on this forums, Darmok is a weird choice for TNG. AFAIK, The best of both worlds, the inner light, or Yesterday's Enterprise would be a much more fitting choice. VOY's The Omega Directive or ENT's First Flight aren't really popular either, AFAIK, but "Flashback"? When godben reviewed that one in his thread, almost everyone seemed to agree that it sucked. However, the weirdest choice for a fan favourite is TATV. Why the devil do they consider that a fan favourite?

StarTrek.Com had a survey up years ago asking for the fans inputs on the various types of Collectors Sets that would be wanted. It was very long and extremely detailed.

So, for the most part, the episodes on the DVDs were Fan choices.

I scratched my head over Flashback being there since though Janeway has a prominent role in the episode it's really more of a Tuvok episode. Although some have argued that it was included since it is the only episode to feature Captain Sulu.

TATV being there as a fan choice is extremely unusual, as I am not aware of one fan who liked this episode, let alone many who would vote for it on a DVD set. Even Scott Bakula expresses his surprise over it being on the set as a fan choice in an interview on the DVD.

Enterprise fans don't like TATV, its as simple as that, it shouldn't be there.
And TNG fans love "Darmok", I personally find it a little grating and boring.

Biut then again, TATV could have been chosen by TOS,TNG, DS9 and VOY fans. Noone who picked the episodes had to be fans of ENT, or any of the other series for that matter. Who knows?

No one likes TATV. TOS fans don't like Enterprise in general. TNG fans don't enjoy how the episode pisses over The Pegasus and practically rapes it. Meanwhile, there's nothing in it for DS9 or Voyager fans. There s no reason for it to be a fan choice at all.

Fan pics for Voyager were the floppest of the flop.

Darmok, for me, is a brilliant episode.

Re: No Trek Fan likes TATV

I'm a Trek fan and I do. SB comments on TATV and you can tell he's pretty surprised by it being included in his opening narration.

You also have to remember that there were certain episodes not permitted because they were going to be on other Fan Collectives or already were. A lot of complaints when they were first released were that they repeated episodes on DVD sets.

The Captain's Log set includes City on the Edge of Forever, which had previously been included on the Time Travel set.

That's one thing about the Fan Collectives that's stopped me from buying them all: the redundancy. Now, the only series I own in entirety are TOS and TAS, and I'd hoped the FCs would cover the highlights of each series, but there are at least three episodes that are repeated in them.

(Plus, I wish they'd have waited til after TOS-R to do it, so the TOS-R eps would have provided a greater motivation to buy eps which I already have.)
