Funny, I was a 'die hard Trekkie' since 1969 (saw TOS Seasion 3 first run); and while TOS is still #`1 for me, ENT was and still is firmly #2.
IMO - ENT DIDN'T try to re-write GR's original concept; it tried to RETURN to it (and more away from the 'himanistic' re-write of Star Trek GR did for the 24th century and TNG - and for me, in that vien, it succeeded.
Also, hardcore TNG fans seem to like to forget that TNG seasons one and two are STILL regarded as some of the worst seasons of Star Trek made; that TNG was pretty much panned by the critics until Yesterday's Enterprise amd the Best of Both Worlds season 3 cliffhanger; and it wasn't until mid-season 3 and Season 4 that the TNG audience actually statred to have more 'main stream' acceptence; and hell, even I enjoyed TNG in it's day; but honestly, over the years, TNG has not retained the same rewatchablility factor (for me); while I fiind both TOS and ENT very rewatchable.
But still - sorry to burst your bubble, but no, not all 'die hard Trekkies' hated it.
Just out of curiousity who were the writers working on the series Enterprise and did said writers work on any of the previous Star Trek series?
