I did think he could be Braxton at one point.. in one of Braxton's timelines of existence.
The suggestion of the OP, while rather thrilling, doesn't work for me because that character was just a thug. But the race would be awesome.

I think its safe to say he's a Romulan, who wanted to change the history of his planet's destruction. Doesn't have to be Nero, of course - could be one of the few refugees that escaped, most probably a scientist that spent the rest of his life to stop things from becoming how they came.
I mean, if the Future Guy had been changing time since the first season, that could explain why JJ Trek's ship designs all so different and all.

I don't understand this need to explain just about every change in design. The only reason JJ's Enterprise looks different inside out is because the old design is outdated and can not pass for futuristic any more (not that it could for more than 30 years now).
ENT may be the only show that belongs to this new Trek 2.0 canon, but as the FAQ at the official site states - "canon is not set in stone," and I'm pretty sure that "Star Trek XI" writers don't give a damn about Future Guy, Daniels or any other failed ENT concept FTM.
When you put a "future guy" character in the show and have him affect the actions of the other characters, then you should at least know yourselves who he is. Having it as a "mystery for the sake of mystery" is not good enough, not even close.
I don't know why, but from the instant I saw and heard Future Guy, I thought Ben Sisko. Didn't the orbs mess with his mind at one point? I wasn't a follower of DS9, so I dont' know all the nuances of all that, but I seem to recall he was messed up at one point. Maybe the dudes controlling the orbs used him in some way.

Actually, that's not a bad concept overall. A 28th century Romulan who descends from the survivors of the 2387 supernova.
