Wolverine opens to $87mil, does this kill the piracy hurts argument?

Re: Wolverine opens to $87mil, does this kill the piracy hurts argumen

it just blows me away that people would want to watch it with cables in the stunts and CGI missing...at least wait for the real dvd rip.WOW!

That was actually what interested me in the workprint.

I object to it because it's taking money away from people who deserve to own it.

Studios employ thousands of people on projects. They deserve, and need to, make that money back to ensure future employment.

Studios spend millions to make a movie, they don't make money off people trading bootlegs on the internet. Because people are viewing it without paying for it.

If you think that's a moral issue or legal issue, whatever.

It's an assholish thing to do.
Pretty much all the DVDs of big Hollywood movies I buy these days are cheap used copies, do you also consider that an assholish thing to do since the studios aren't making any money off of me purchasing the DVD?

So do you ever borrow games or movies from people? If so, then why are you stealing money from the people that rightfully deserve to make money off of it? You're enjoying their content for free! What about the public library!? Do you feel bad when you rag on a movie? What if what you said caused people not to watch the film. You just took money out of their pocket. Does that thought give you pause? Or is it only assholey if someone deprives content owners from money in a way that you youself do not use?

Pretty much. I wasn't interested in the movie in any form, but the prospect of seeing a working cut was intriguing.

You're comparing someone putting a bootleg of a movie and making it available to millions on the internet to me borrowing a single, purchased, DVD.

Apples and Oranges.

Well I'm pretty sure none of us on Trek BBS put Wolverine on the Internet so it actually is an apples to apples comparison, it just seems like you don't want to address it.

God, THIS old thing AGAIN?

It's theft. It didn't help. It probably HURT because an unfinished version was leaked.

Wait for stuff and PAY for it ... otherwise there won't BE anymore stuff WORTH stealing.

I wonder how much it would have made if the movie had been leaked, and the buzz had been *good*.

That is the key issue here. In the past, good buzz on films or music that has been released before the publication date, have all fared well commercially.

Re: Wolverine opens to $87mil, does this kill the piracy hurts argumen

Wolverine has a Friday estimate of $8.22 million on Showbiz Data. That should lead to a weekend take of around $27-28 million, a second weekend drop of around 67-68%.

I've heard similar no more than $30 million...ooooo ouch how does that feel Wolverine . This is seriously bad news because any sequel or new franchise movie will be hurt big time due to the hammering from fans & critics of X3/X-W.

Vulcan you should tell a few people this news in TREK XI section make everyone very happy .

I saw that earlier. Over in the BOM forums my predict(and I said it here in the Grading thread) was for a 65% drop. Still not all bad. Its going to be in the ballpark of $130m after just 11 days. I see it holding up well enough when Angels & Demons opens. I'm just not feeling the buzz on A&D, it could open to only $50-60m imo. Low in other words for a summer May opener.
