Star Trek on Family Guy again...

Family Guy does it again!

Tonight's episode (it's still airing on the east coast as I type) included an homage to The Wrath of Khan. Brian's new girlfriend, Lauren Conrad from The Hills, plays the part of Carol Marcus for a short time as she and Brian act out the scene when Carol takes Kirk into the Genesis cave. They do it line for line from "It'll make you feel as young as when the world was new" through the line where Carol explains how the lifeforms formed at an accelerated rate.

No link yet but the whole episode will be on Hulu tomorrow.

I learned my lesson with the episode featuring the TNG cast. Unlike Gotham :p, that series is beyond saving. I don't care how much they reference Star Trek or how loving their homages are.

That show is totally unwatchable now and they could reunite the entire cast of TNG again and add in Shatner, Nimoy, and the rest of the surviving original Star Trek cast and I still wouldn't watch it. Well maybe if Sisko, Dax, Bashir, and O'Brien showed up, I might have to at least check out their scene :), but otherwise, screw this show.

I always liked references like these unfortunately I feel they are lost on the majority of the Family Guy audience.

Most of the references made in FG are lost on the audience. Seth McFarlane is directing references for people who were growing up/grown up in the 70s and 80s but most of his audience were only born in the 80s or 90s! He's an idiot!

i completely agree. if you're going to reuinite a cast it should be something worthwhile. this was not. it was a sidenote at best to the main story of the episode. so dissappointing. they should take a page from futurama on how to reuinite a cast and make it worth it.

And yet his show is doing just fine and is still a favorite of college audiences. Go figure.

I must admit I've never watched an episode of Family Guy but I've watched 2 or 3 of their shitty homages on youtube. it seems like just renacting a scene from a genre movie is supposed to be funny.

Yes it is doing "fine" in terms of ratings but ask anyone who is still sticking with it and watching it every week (people like me - a college student) are fed up with a lot of the references. They've toned down on the 70s/80s pop culture reference but I can assure you most people who watch the show don't get them or are sick of them. We all just hope for Seth to wake up and for better things to come.

Missus and I really like Family Guy and have seen many episodes on a random basis. Being the same age range as MacFarlane I get almost all the homages to the various shows and movies from the 70s and 80s and that makes it entertaining for me. However, we've not seen many of the latest episodes. Has it really gotten bad?

Well pretty much every episode is the pits if you compare them to the golden age of season 1-3, but its gotten steadily worse since it came back after cancellation seasons 4 - 7

I'm a college student, too, and I like it just fine.

Ah but it could be so much better if it stopped with the references which are so hard to get if you're not 30+, season 1-3 were so much better :'(

MacFarlane stopped smoking weed around July 2008. The decline in comedic value may correlate to this decision.

my girlfriend and I are big FG fans. We also consider ourselves uber-dorks and get nearly every pop-culture reference. I think they're getting increasingly obscure. We comment quite frequently, "who besides ourselves would get that?"
