I dont really see that as a spoiler, seeing as his name is posted in official synopses and cast lists everywhere and I haven't really said anything about the movie (that I know of), but whatev.

People who are actively avoiding spoilers in order to see the movie as freshly as possible probably haven't seen any synopses or cast lists. And there has been more said about the character in this forum (perhaps revelant to your guess) than is revealed in movie trailers.

As we have requested in [thread=74690]this thread[/thread], if you must speak about the movie here, please put any reference that isn't revealed in the trailers behind spoiler tags. Thanks.

Future Guy...I didn't care who it was eight years ago, and I care even less now.

...I don't know why I bothered to post that, that's how little I care :p

Seriously, It's not like we're ever going to know because B&B didn't even know. They where making it all up as they went and they just scrapped the idea of future guy because they couldn't be bothered with him any more and they never even bothered to spin out some completely contrived answer for who he might be, that's how lazy and all around douchey they where about ENT. He never had an identity and he never will outside of fan-wankdom and fanfiction.

Isn't mystery for the sake of mystery OK sometimes? Does it even matter who he is?

For most people, yes. For some it is obvious that they cannot handle it. I think it is one of the nice mysteries of Enterprise and I am glad they did not succumb to some fanwank episode to satisfy a few people.

I hear (well, read actually) what you're saying. Inexplicable mysteries can be fun, depending on how they're written. The best episodes of The X Files did that by having contradictory theories. But mostly the purpose of a riddle is to be solved. The trouble with Future Guy is that we were in fact given clues. His silouhette. Daniel's description where his faction were located in the timeline. I'm still very much interested in a motive for his scattergun tactics - to disrupt the Klingon Empire, then having Silik save the NX-01 from destruction, trying to have Archer brought before him, then when he did... imparting imformation about the Xindi probe. Definitely something Berman & Braga we're keeping options open for, so future writers could come back to it. It's nothing new. Take DS9, as created by Piller and Berman... I doubt Sisko was always intended to have half human, half prophet ancestry. Bashir's genetically engineered past sure came out of nowhere too. Those rich storylines didn't come to fruition until much later, when writers like Steven Behr & Moore made some retroactive adjustments.

Unless the main villain from JJ Abrams' Star Trek survives by escaping to the 26th Century, it can't be him. What scenes I've seen, Eric Bana comes across like a thug. The creation of a whole new universe an accident, effectively down to a complete numbskull. Whoever Future Guy was, he's apparently way more subtle, devious and manipulative... like an old school Romulan.

I've been going with the notion he's a 28th century Romulan trying to change his empire's histories with both the Klingons and Earth ever since the first season. Makes the most sense.

But if that's the case, why did he tell Archer where the Xindi were?

Perhaps because the Sphere Builders intended their "Expanse" to engulf the entire quadrant and beyond, encompassing Vulcan and eventually other worlds like Romulus too. The reason why Future Guy stopped the NX-01 being destroyed in Cold Front is much more of a puzzle... Later on, the Suliban (under his direction) cause the destruction of a colony, which in turn almost sets Starfleet exploration back a decade or more. So his agenda apparently involved Enterprise still being around but not making history with every light year?

Perhaps Entrprise prevented the Andorians from using their knowledge about the Xindi Superweapon to destroy Romulus or something like that.

Right. You're talking about Proving Ground where Archer almost detonates that test version in the Kumari's launch bay. Well, of course Shran shares the scans he took with Archer but had no doubt already passed them onto the Imperial Guard too. Later in Season Four, during the Vulcan trilogy, it's used by their High Command as an accuse to restart the war against the Andorians... Not sure, but I don't think that's the reason FG needed Enterprise. It's no doubt something they're involved in later, that we didn't get to see.
