Takei is a really nice man, having met him when I was a teenager, but in these past few years, he's become something of a media whore talking out of his "oh my."

I got his autograph when he participated in a career fair at UCLA. Nice guy. Did you guys not see him on Shatner's Roast on Comedy Central (or youtube it?) He's super funny and I think Shat and him are still buddies. It's just good old bickering chemistry for the media to write about. Of course every celebrity needs the spotlight.

For me it's about the Shatner-Takei feud. The way both of them sometimes handle this "feud" grates on me and smacks of trying to court media attention.
Then again, there are days when I find it down right amusing. So there ya go. I am a convoluted mess of human contradictions.

Not quite. I personally have no problem with Takei or the fact that he is a gay, but the fact is that his gaiety was never a secret yet all of the sudden he decides to come out to Forbes announcing it to the world... coincidentally when he's trying to drum up publicity for the play he was performing in at the time.
There were a lot of people like myself who questioned the timing of this announcement because as I said, it wasn't a sercet, the guy was (and is) a has-been in his late sixties, oh and he wasn't getting a whole lot of work outside of guest appearances on Howard Stern.
I thought it was a little disgusting that on the surface he seemed to be exploiting his sexual orientation for personal gain.
