I'll raise you..two bits

TNG had that thing with Poker games, which I liked a lot. Sometimes those quick scenes ended up better than the episode!!!...

What was your favorite 'poker' scene on TNG, and why? Mine was when Will and Thomas Riker had their little showdown, and watching the reactions of Worf and Data as Riker(s) argument became more angst driven...

The "beard" scene with Crusher, Riker, Worf & Geordi. Very funny! I only wish we saw the hand fully played out and the forfeit taken! :D

I really liked both "Cause and Effect" and "Time's Arrow Pt. 2", because they both had the poker game as a major plot point, and not just a character moment. I also loved "Descent pt. 1" for actually having Prof. Hawking there.

Ohh yeah, the physicists' poker scene in "Descent" was classic. It was full of great physics inside jokes. "Wrong again, Albert!"

I liked Lower Decks, when they had the two poker games going at the same time, showing the two points of view of the junior and senior officers, and then how Ben could slip between both crowds easily, not being Starfleet, and therefore not intimidated by the higher ranks.

My favorite use of the poker game was the final scene of the series. That's probably my favorite final scene of any tv show.

I liked the poker scene in BOBW, when Riker says to Wes, "Time for the long pants." I liked the poker scenes, they had a nice sense of continuity through the seasons and brought the characters together. They were a good invention to get some character interaction because elsewhere inter-crew interaction seemed to me to be low key and not much of it happening.

The last poker game in All Good things, finally the entire senior crew is playing poker, I wished it happened a while back.

Absolutely. That episode certainly has grown on me over the years.
As has my love of poker.

I enjoyed the final scene of the final episode of TNG, when Pickard finally joins the rest of the senior staff in a poker game. Pickard said "I wish I had done this earlier, DeAnna replys "you were always welcome"...

I realized where this title came from, given what today is and a certain Bill Murry movie that I consider a classic. Still, I have a question. What does it mean by "I'll bet/raise...two bits." Never really understood that.

I think I would have appreciated Picard more had he been more open with his crew. I could always imagine Kirk/Scotty getting smashed on some planet in between missions. Picard and Geordi? They might go to a CHIPnDALE's together, but drinking socially as buddies? Never...and that, to me, is where TNG always seemed sterile.

I love those "All Good Things" and "Lower Decks" scenes too, but my all-time favourite poker moment in TNG may be when they're playing in "Cause and Effect" and Data tries to act all playful and casual by saying, "no help for the Klingon". That line always makes me smile. So cheesy and funny at the same time.

Favorite poker scenes...probably tied between Cause and Effect and Lower Decks. In the former, it actually played and important role in the story (and I also loved the "No help for the Klingon" line) which was kinda cool. In the latter, the switch between the junior and senior games was really fun to watch.

Yep..CHARACTER-CHARACTER-CHARACTER...where did the later TREKS not understand that!!!

I love the Lower Decks games but the All Good Things... game is definitely my favourite, simply for Picard and Troi's "I should have done this a long time ago"/"You were always welcome" exchange.

Anybody else remember the way that was used in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". One of my favourite parts of the movie. Shave and a haircut...two bits! It was educational too. I would have never found out where that melody came from, even after hearing it in countless songs and referenced endlessly from other pop culture sources.

I liked the poker scenes in Cause and Effect, since that was the first episode I ever actually enjoyed watching (this episode brought to you by the number three :p). Other favorites are the one with Data and the physicists on the Holodeck, and the one where Beverly makes a bet with the men that if she wins they have to shave their beards. :D
