Critics take swips at WOLVERINE:ORIGINS

It's not the concept. It's just that the claws were always a Weapon X addition to Logan. But when Marvel got the bright idea that they wanted Magneto to rip the adamantium out of Wolverine, they thought...*GASP*...Wolverine won't have claws, and Wolverine without claws won't be Wolverine to the fans! (Wrong. Good writing could have made it work...something Marvel was lacking then. Deadpool, anyone? *snicker*) So they retconned the bone claws so Magneto could do his damage, but we could still have the only thing Marvel thought people liked about Wolvie.

Ding!

On top of all that, every single artist made them look like branches. Why the hell would they look bumpy and gnarled, then look like blades when they're coated in adamantium?

The answer from Marvel will be that if they drew them to look like bone, keeping them white or slightly yellow, they'd closely resemble the metal claws, thus confusing readers. I guess they didn't think constant use of the phrase "bone claws" and snapping them off every other issue would be adequate clues.

I mean, wtf, really?

I've never been a big Wolverine fan (I used to think he was hugely overrated, until charismatic Hugh Jackman made me like him. That's right, Jackman used mind control.), so I never really gave much thought of Wolverine beyond the claws.

However, MY big problem with bone claws? The story went on for far too long. If I don't associate Wolverine beyond the claws, that's just as bad as Spidey without the webbing and Superman without flight. Sure, those two heroes have had stories without their trademark powers (good ones, too), but the loss of their powers wasn't a years-long excuse for them to go emo or aimless direction, unlike Wolverine.

Additionally, Logan's always hated his claws. They hurt when he uses them and they were a constant reminder of government abuse. You would think that losing his metal would mean getting over his loss, no? For a guy famous for amnesia, he did a lot of dwelling. Get over it.

I always really liked Logan's reaction in flashback during the climax of X2 where he looked at his adamantium claws, and screamed in vicious terror.

Yeah as he's screaming and his hands are covered in blood. That's not in the film, which I thought was a bit of a disapointment
