Queen's Day celebrations cancelled after accident

A sports car trying to cross the Queen's day parade ploughed into the crowd watching the event in Apeldoorn. 14 spectators were injured, some of them seriously. There are also reports of fatalities, including children.

The incident occurred minutes after a luxury open-top coach carrying the Royal Family passed the spot. The coach briefly stopped and was then accompanied to Het Loo palace by security forces. Eyewitnesses say the royals must have witnessed what happened.

Queen Beatrix has sent a message expressing her sympathy to the victims. The government information service says the queen and her family are deeply shocked by the incident.

It happend live on TV, plenty of speculation if it was an accident or a failed attack on the Royal family...
 
17 wounded, 2 dead...
The driver said to the police after he gained consciousness that it was delibarate...
He is wounded and needs to be operated...
He is Dutch and probably acted alone, altough apparently there was a passenger as well...
 
I read about it earlier today. I wonder why anyone would do such a horrible thing.
 
The driver apparently lost his job 6 months ago and had to move out tomorrow because he couldn't pay the rent anymore...
So it looks like he couldn't take it anymore and decided maybe to either make a statement or commit suicide...
Too bad he couldn't have done it without hurting other people...
 
I thought you lot in HOLLAND had a benefit system like our's in the Uk that paid peoples rent for them and so forth when they go out of work?

Yeah, still lots of speculation...
Now it turns out he ended the rent contract himself...

Now 3 more of the wounded died, so now 5 dead people...
The driver is in a critical condition in hospital and can't be questioned right now...

It also seems he was actually waiting for the bus to arive on that part of the route...
But right now it is pretty much confirmed it was deliberate...

3 of the wounded are kids, 9, 15 and 16 years old...
The other wounded are 6 men and 4 women...

What a sick fuck.

They should hand him over to that Prince from the United Arab Emirates for punishment. The one who likes to torture people, and then run them over with his car. Slowly.

I say screw the driver, let him die from his injuries. I never even knew The Netherlands still had a queen.

The Netherlands is a parliamentary democratic constitutional monarchy.
Queen Beatrix only holds a symbolic function basically. The Monarch formally appoints a representative to preside over the creation of a coalition government following a parliamentary election.

So basically The Netherlands has a Royal Family because they can afford to. It's like governmental bling. ;)
