Shut down by the Health Department!

RoJoHen

Awesome
Admiral
I am a bartender at TGI Fridays, and today we were shut down by the Health Department. I had today off, but I found out via text message from another coworker. I'm unclear on the details, but it has something to do with a drain in the kitchen not working. The Health Department already didn't like us because our owners did some construction in the kitchen without informing them.

Anyway, I have no idea how long we're going to be shut down. At least as long as it takes to fix the drain and then get the Health Inspector back to our store to give the okay.

I've had this job for 3 years. I loved it for a long time, but about a year ago we got bought out, and our new owners just changed a lot of things. It hasn't been the place I loved for a long time. I've only been holding onto it because the money is keeping me alive while I study to become a Personal Fitness Trainer. This last incident has just motivated me to study more for that. Hopefully I will be able to officially quit within the month.

This is going to sound awful so I'm sorry in advance.

What do you need to study to become a Personal Fitness Trainer?

There are different certification programs out there for personal trainers. The one I'm studying now is from the NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). You study a lot about anatomy and different workout techniques and how to help people achieve specific goals. There's also a bunch of legal stuff you have to know.

The course just consists of one fat textbook, and I have to study on my own. Then I sign up for an exam, and I either get certified or I don't.

Oh that's neat, I figured if I just came out and ask it would sound horrible.

I worked at McDonald's until one day I just stopped showing up. Never told them I quit, I did it to get back at the manager for fucking me over.

Sometimes you just need to do what you need to do.

of course he needs to know how the body works so that he doesn't accidentally injure his clients . . . like that idiot at Golds who said it was okay for my mom to be lifting weights just months after having a herniated disk in her neck repaired . . . :scream:
we'll find out in a few weeks if she'll need surgery again :(

anyway, I hope you can get back to work soon, and much luck with the career change :techman:

Definitely. The place has been good to me, for the most part. They new owners have just made some really unwise decisions over the past year, and something was bound to bite them in the ass sooner or later. All this does is motivate me to finally get my shit together and get the job I want, rather than the job that simply pays the bills.

It's always odd when a restaurant shuts down temporarily. There was a Sweet River restaurant near my old apartment and it was shut down for about two months with a sign on the door that said something about losing their liquor license. I don't know why they couldn't at least serve food anymore, but whatever. It was weird because even though it wasn't health related it didn't feel so great going back there, kind of made me uncomfortable. But if it had been health related I probably never would have gone back. That can really damage a place's image.

Anyway, I hope that you can change careers soon and become the trainer you want to be.

I don't mean to be rude, but your mother should have checked with her doctor first. I have three bad discs in my neck that were made worse as a result of a traffic accident. My doctor strictly informed me NO HEAVY LIFTING.

My fav chinese place was forced to close because of a health inspection. I dont know what they did, but their food was much better than any other place.

Maybe they used real dog?

Depending on how much liquor the place sells, it might not have been worth the cost to keep it open. Liquor sales are such a huge part of our restaurant that food sales alone would not be enough to keep it operating.

Sorry to hear about this RoJoHen. I hope you won't be out of work for long.

I just swung by and there was a sign on the door that said they hoped to open by 3pm today. Honestly, I hope that isn't true. I kind of got excited about having the weekend off!

I can get behind that. I was worried about the closure being a couple of weeks or more and that might suck.

Oh, I know. I was expecting it to last at least until Monday. Who knows?

I'm just a little disappointed because if had been closed all weekend, I would have been able to go out for my friend's birthday. If it opens back up, I won't be able to.

I'm thinking of just starting a small fire or something to prolong the break. :p

That sucks. The restaurant I worked at was shut down for a day because of drainage problems and it was really disorienting. I had gotten into a rhythm and I felt so weird the rest of the day. Though I did show up for work before it happened, so that was a part of it. If it was on a day off it would have been different.

That's such a morbid thing to say, you chink.
