Toys out early!

I just made what is either the best deal of all time on the 3.75" line or else a gigantic scam , I'm not sure. An online retailer offered the entire line for 13.99 Euro (that's 18.50 USD), which I found hard to believe. I emailed him to clarify if this offer really meant ALL the figures or just to select one from the line. Apparently it really means all of them, so I bought them on a dare. I remain skeptical. Come May 5, we'll see...

What I found interesting is that this person listed among the figures "Scotty in Frozen Planet Outfit". I wonder if this is a miscommunication from his source or if Europe is getting a different figure than the US?

(Oh, and please don't tell me "You were ripped off". I already feel like it.)
Let's face it, if you paid to see NEM you are already used to being ripped off. :guffaw:If it is legit, send me the information!:bolian:

Same here. Good luck and if it's legit, let us know and give us some linkage!

I'll give you the link right now:

He's now got all the Playmates toys up for pre-sale. What I find interesting are the relative prices. Because they playsets, for one, are priced pretty much as I would've expected, compared to the very very very cheap figures. I wonder if maybe Playmates is trying a different sales strategy for Germany (or all of Europe). Some folks from the UK have already mentioned the figures don't include playset parts. Maybe they decided to leave that bit of "We're forcing you to buy all the figures if you want a decent playset" out for us because they think European buyers will not go for that, making the figures less expensive? Or they decided to sell them for much less in what I assume is a weaker market for action figures? You know, lower the profit margin for the individual item, but increase the total sales volume...

If you look at the individual product pages, you will see how at least two of the figure lines (3.75" and 12") have a "Scotty in Frozen Planet Outfit" listed. Maybe this isn't an error after all, but really a Wave 2 figure that's being sold early in Europe? What do our UK friends say to this?

Hey Peeps!

:) The Trek XI action figures and playsets have hit stores in New Zealand!!!

Toyworld, Ballance Street in Wellington has both action figs, playsets, and replicas - everything except the starship!!!! Which is the one thing I'm most wanting to get!!!!

 The wait is killing me!!!!!

I finally found some stuff. Picked up the bigger versions of Kirk, Spock, and Old Spock. Probably get the Enterprise next week.

Alright, brief update on my "great deal on the 3.75" figures". As I suspected, the seller made an error and the price was meant for one figure only instead of the entire line. Oh well...

I'm now pondering whether to get a handful of the 3.75" ones, or just two or so of the 6" ones.

Does anybody who has actually bought them already made any photos of their collection to see how these two lines look compared to, say, the old Playmates line from the 90s?

I can take and post some photos when I get home, but...

The 90's playmates toys are perhaps more 'cartoon-y' than this 3.75" line. They are far sturdier though.

The 6" lines compares somewhat favorably against the recent Art Asylum/Diamond Select figures.

I don't ususally by the toys (I'm more into the models), but I was thinking of getting a phaser until I walked into a Toys R Us in Times Square in New York City this weekend and saw it. The highly polished chrome-plated movie phaser looked like a cheap toy (guess it is, kinda). They were also selling a lot of TOS stuff, including the phaser pistol, which looked very much like the prop. Much better than the movie toy. I almost bought that, but didn't get anything.

What struck me in the store was the clear differentiation between the display of TOS toys and the movie toys display. They shared one shelving area, but all TOS stuff was on one side, and all movie stuff was on another. No mixing by character, type of toy, or whatever. Completely segregated.

The TOS bobble-head Kirk doll was kinda cool. Almost bought it.

Off thread, if this hasn't been posted somewhere before, there's a huge curved billboard for the movie in Times Square near the corner of 42nd St and Broadway. It's the black and white poster of the Enterprise, only longer than it is wide. And, it's stunning. It's simplicity really stands out against all the color and gaudiness around it.

I'd appreciate it. I still have trouble imagining the relative sizes of these two new figure lines... That's why I'd love a photo comparison.

Bah, Just thought i'd chime in - I got some shinier enamel spray paint the other day, applied a few coats only to have it not stick at all (at least after spraying it at 11am and picking it up at 6pm), leaving the phaser a bloody mess.

Also, after seeing the film I feel I should point out to any modders - The phaser Nozzle. Whenever it changes from Stun to kill, the chamber at the back (so if its on Stun, It would be Kill and vice versa) is always Chrome. I noticed it when Spock changes the setting on the transporter pad. So that puts all this covering of the stun barrell to rest, unless you just like the look of it. :p

Either way, I'll wait till the toys get cheaper and buy me another Phaser. :p

I think this gives a good perspective...

The taller Scotty looks like he wants a banana. He has big ape arms!

I'm thinking that the 12 inch figures (especially Spock) could actually become decent figures with a body swap (Hot Toys True-type of course and if you don't know what that is, then you should. It's the best 1:6 scale body on the market)) and a repaint. I dunno. I may give it a shot.

After being spoiled the last few years by Art Asylum's amazing replicas, I was disappointed when I found out Playmates was back doing Trek toys. They never get it "quite right" for whatever reason. Fine, the Enterprise looks mostly good, but those damned screws are annoying. AA found ways to keep the ships accurate and hide the screws better. The Enterprise also as too many assemply seams and battery doors. You know AA will eventually put out a better Enterprise, I might just wait for that.

The props are Playmates standard. They make "toys" where AA makes replicas. I guess that's the difference, but I was used to it. The only time an AA prop looked cheap was the "Enterprise" series communicator. And it was still accurate.

The shiny phaser is cheesy, the communicator looks amazingly cheap and the "TRICORDER" (thank God they put the word on there so I know what it is) is as impressive as the usual line of their stuff. At least they're not $30 a piece. But jeez, put your AA TOS communicator next to the new one and one looks like a TV prop, and the other like a cheap plastic toy.

On the other hand, it's so freaking cool to see a row of toys devoted to Trek again.

I dunno, I wanted to be excited and snap up some new Trek toys and I did get the props just to keep the collection up to date. But these are a real step down from what we've been getting over the last 8 years. I'm sure I'll get an Enterprise too, as a fill in until the "real" one is put out later. LOL

XI toys...

I got my STAR TREK bridge set...with most of the dolls. Those tricky devils. You have to get each doll seperately in order to get the bridge consol they use as well...all I have left to get are UHURA and NERO...then next week I'll get the Transporter set...

My one complaint? The dolls are hard to pose and OLDER Spock can't even sit down...

Other than that, it is pretty cool...
