Primeval the movie?

The producers of Primeval are reportedly working on a film based in the US.
The proposed movie, based on the cult series, will begin later in the US later this year, reports io9.com.

An ITV insider confirmed confirmed to DS: "Discussions are underway for a Primeval film."

OK, it has the smell of bullshit to it, considering it's unnamed sources involved, but what would we think to this?
If it were tied in to the series some how, expanding the universe, so to speak, I'd be happy to go to cinema to see it.

me too. Love this show-and still waiting for s3 in the US! Freakin' BeebUSA! Get on with it!

I take it they would replace the cast with big names which would be a shame because i like Ben Miller and Andrew Lee Potts.

Not necessarily. Actually, as things currently stand, it'd be quite easy to slot in a couple of big name American actors as US locals who encounter an anomaly, and then have the established 'second string' characters - Connor, Lester, etc - appear as the longer experienced 'expert back-up' from the UK.

I think they could introduce a whole American team and have the Brits come in as the experts, laying the ground for a TV show made by BBC about American characters.

you know the idea of a 2nd US team, dealing with US anomalies is something ive been toying with for a while now, and its certianly something you could do in the movie.

^I think the idea of international teams is probably something we've all thought about. I'd be interesting to see that there was some kind of international initiative to deal with it, and not just a small team in London.

Well, that's one of the 'Elephant' questions that hasn't been addressed yet: either anomalies are opening across the planet, so you'd think other governments have set up their own teams to deal with the situation...
Or... they are only opening in Britain, which would be a big coincidence, unless someone is somehow in control of them, and is doing it for a reason. A reason connected to people surnamed Cutter, at a guess...

Looks like there might be something to this.

From Digital Spy

ITV has revealed that a Primeval movie is going ahead.
Last month, an ITV insider confirmed to DS that discussions were underway for a movie based on the cult series.
Warner Bros. has reportedly acquired the screen rights to Primeval in a high six-figure deal.
According to Variety, Akiva Goldman, who scripted Angels & Demons, and Kerry Foster will produce the film.
"There is a solid mythology to the series, but the movie has the dinosaur element of Jurassic Park and the time travel element of Lost, and it just feels like the kind of big movie that Warner Bros. does well," said Foster.

comparing it to Lost & Jurassic Park, when you remeber that Lost was filmed on the same island as Jurassic Park, is this movie just going to be.

Lester: Gather round team, the americans want in on this operation, so meet your new cast memebers.
Connor: Ive just created improved the detector, so it can keep up analomys all over the world, not just the ones conveniently located inside the M25
*siren goes off*
Abby: Connor is that a test?
Connor: no Hannah ( ;) ) its real
new US cast member: where is it located
Connor: a small Hawaiian island

Cutter: wait that sounds fimilar
Abby: Cutter your back
Cutter: well now its a movie im quite happy to return, oh & im from another time line created by my pesky ex wife, I sure hope we dont see her in the next two hours
Conner: yeah because things are never fun when your ex is around.

I sounds suspiciously like it's going to be an all new take on it rather than a continuation of/connected the show.

well one more alt timeline cant hurt.

that said it could be like what I think the new Trek movie is.

Helen Cutter travels back in time to before the TV series starts, and changes the timeline, so the movie has a whole new timeline.

But then the series would never happen, and my dvds would disappear off the shelf.

well my S1 boxset is still on the shelf, despite the timeline change, and what of your Trek DVDs?

Sounds kinda unnecessary. We have the Jurassic Park movies and that new one with Will Ferrell. How many dinosaur flicks do we need anyway? :D
I take it they would replace the cast with big names
My Magic 8 ball says...Nicholas Cage and Scarlett Johansson.

Seems unnecessary. If they want to create a spinoff series, and think it might have a hope in hell of success, they can do it now. Using a movie to launch a TV series is an unusual strategy (probably because the expense isn't worth it). Star Trek would be an exception but has a unique history that wouldn't apply to other franchises.

If this movie happens, it will be Nick and Scarlett running around being chased by dinos, and not too much else. Having characters from a show that 99% of the audience doesn't even recognize wouldn't be worth screen time that could be better used by more dinos and Scartlett's bouncing chest. Ya gotta think like Hollywood. :D
Lost was filmed on the same island as Jurassic Park,
Lost is filmed on Oahu and Jurassic Park was filmed on several Hawaiian islands, including Oahu, the Big Island and Kauai.
