we're (Trek, that is) on Newsweek!

Let it be noted that the people who first brought up the political references in the article in order to comment upon them provocatively were the right-wingers - as usual. They just can't leave this stuff alone.

... and we've got a Vulcan prez...

It’s the Spock plot strands that give the new “Trek” its best shot at once again commanding the zeitgeist. Spock’s cool, analytical nature feels more fascinating and topical than ever now that we’ve put a sort of Vulcan in the White House. All through the election campaign, columnists compared President Obama’s unflappably logical demeanor and prominent ears with Mr. Spock’s. But as Spock’s complicated racial backstory is spun out in detail in the new “Trek”—right back into childhood—the Obama parallels keep deepening.
Anything to kiss Obama's ass.

Look though, he got donations from Carpenter Street, perhaps it's true.

WOW! huffingtonpost, ya that's an unbiased news source!

I thought it was reliable enough for a lame joke attempt.:)
As anyone who actually clicked on the link would easily have been able to spot.
(Big Hint: Chicago is not the same as Detroit. Geography in Action!™)

And enough politicizing, everyone; we have forums appropriate for that, and this ain't one of them.

Star Trek... on the cover of Newsweek... in the grocery-store checkout line, right in front of the eyeballs of Joe and Josephine Public. That's what the thread is about.

A lot of weird comments in this thread.

Star Trek making the cover of Newsweek is super cool.

I agree. I have not had a chance to see the article, and I am not a regular reader of Newsweek, but I will pick it up now.

Go ahead and try... ~Bleah~ I just stopped at a newsie, a grocery store, a Wal-Mart and a CVS. No Newsweek - or TIME, for that matter - anywhere. Either this hasn't been put out yet, or NJ is getting as retarded as the popular joke has always held it is...
