Nintendo DS games?

Once again, I have a Nintendo DS. The Lite version, in particular. I have a few games so far:

* Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
* Final Fantasy III
* Final Fantasy IV
* Final Fantasy Tactics A2
* MarioKart
* Animal Crossing: Wild World

I'm wanting to build up a list of other games I should get in the future. Anyone here have any recommendations? Besides "buy a PSP"--not gonna happen.

I prefer strategy and RPGs, although I'm not averse to a good shooter, racing, or fighting game. I've not played any rhythm games on the DS so I don't know what I'd think of those. But I like value for my money--I want a game with lots of hours built into its gameplay, not something I'll finish in an afternoon and never touch again.

Any thoughts?

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is a decent point-and- umm... "click" mystery game. Unfortunately, it is one of those games that you could finish in an afternoon or two. And since it is a mystery game, you probably won't touch it again.

Other than that, my list of DS games is pretty similar to yours. I have Advance Wars: Dual Strike and New Super Mario Bros., but that's about it.

How is Final Fantasy IV on the DS? Is it worth getting even if I already have the SNES version?

I got the Zelda game, thinking I'd hate the gameplay (But I love Zelda games, so...)

Gotta say, I had a LOT of fun with it.

Other than that, I only really play Mario Kart. Like, twice a day at work for the past 3 years. This game has VALUE for us.

How is Final Fantasy IV on the DS? Is it worth getting even if I already have the SNES version?

FF4 is awesome. Even if you only played the SNES version before, it's like a whole new game here. They added some features--some worthwhile, some not. You have "abilities" now, like Counter and Auto-Potion, that you can have a character learn. The difficulty level is, I believe, like the Japanese version of the original--so, harder than the US version. The graphical overhaul is very nice. There are also voiceovers, on occasion. Personally, I think it was worth the $30. Haven't finished it yet, but I'm working on it. It's definitely still a tough, worthwhile RPG with one of the best stories in the FF series.

I had Advance Wars: Dual Strike last time around. I got Days of Ruin because I wanted to see how different it was. In all honesty, the AW games don't change that much. The biggest difference in DoR is that the visual style has gone grittier and darker--even though the characters all have that cartoony manga quality of the previous games.

Ah, yes. I do need to try that Zelda game. Problem is, there's never been a Zelda game I really got into.

Chrono Trigger DS is probably a safe bet if you haven't played it before. I've only played the original SNES version, so I can't vouch for the DS version and whatever they added to it.

Actually, I played the hell out of the SNES version, so I wasn't sure it was worth a premium price for the DS version. I mean, $35 for a game they just added a few features to? Seriously?

/\ I haven't played the DS version, so I don't know if the extra content is worth it or not. It certainly is if you haven't played Chrono Trigger at all before, but if you have... *shrug*

Maybe I'm just picky but I've found very few enjoyable DS games. I basically use it to play Mario Kart. Zelda Phantom Hourglass was great. There's Mario64 but the controls are awkward. I've got FF3 but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. I'm also planning on getting FF4 and Chrono Trigger down the road.

the CT DS version has 5 new dungeons *although two feel rushed & are just about the same only different time periods), 1 new ending, a new weapon for Crono, the Anime FMV's from the PS1 port and a nice art gallery

A good, if very casual, RPG is Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. It's the sequel to the GBA Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, which can also be played on a DS.

If you're not adverse to sim, SimCity Creator is a good and crippleingly addictive choice. If you don't like SimCity, though, stay very, very far away.

The New Super Mario Bros. - it's great old-school style Mario
Mario 64 - also fun but it took me a while to get used to it
MarioKart - fun!
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourlgass - it's not bad but I haven't been playing it regularly

Is it better/worse than Sim City DS? I played that one and enjoyed making one city but then I never wanted to play it again

I am open to hearing more, but I may well check out Partners in Time.

I love SimCity so I might try that one, too. Anyone played the Civilization game? Or maybe the Anno 1602 game? Are they any good? And by "good," I mean from the perspective of someone who's familiar with the PC versions, too.

I might try New Super Mario Bros. Mario 64, I just never really got into, on any system. Plus, I didn't care for the DS controls on that game.

I want to check out the GTA game, too. The top-down view won't bother me one bit because that's how I cut my teeth on the GTA series--the first two games being completely top-down.

Since you like RPGs, you might consider the Dragon Quest games. IV and V are out now, and VI is on the way.
