Aaron Curry and Donald Brown.
If these guys represent the incoming NFL draft class, then the future is brighter because of them. I'm sick-and-tired of hearing about:
- Plaxico's apparent wish to become a practice target for the NRA
- Matt Jones' development of a pharmaceutical study program
- Travis Henry's one man attempt to increase votership in a record number of districts aroudn the country.
Curry, the possible #1 pick and consensus best LB this year, is using some of that premium space at the draft leading up to and during this weekend, to give that rare lifetime experience to a young cancer survivor. imagine what it's likwe for that young boy and his father, to go from life-in-the-balance to one of the biggest parties around. They've gone on sightseeing tours, eaten some outstanding food, and just plain hung out with Curry and others. What a difference something so simple will make in their lives. For decades from now, just imagine what the family Thanksgiving dinner talk will be like!
Brown, regarded by many as the top RB in the draft, is taking time to contact young men about participating in a mentor program he's developing. He's not content to just be nice to others, he's teaching them how to raise themselves up and stand on their own. Teaching them to be MEN! brown is decidedly not of the "I love me some me" generation.
There is no doubt that Curry and Brown will be multi-millionaires after this weekend. Their lives will change, and I hope for the better even though it's already great. More importantly, I hope they stay so firmly focused and grounded upon virtues we all would love to read about. We keep hearing about NFL players getting in trouble over and over again. You cna bankt on this: Curry and Brown are sure-fire first round picks because of their talent but also because of the c-word: character. The league needs men like this in more ways than you can count.
Do yourself a favor and read both linked articles up there. You'll feel better afterwards.
