Time Warp

...and all of a sudden an image of Worf in heels and fishnet stockings springs to mind, unbidden...

I thought I might point out this post from Doug Drexler's blog.

In it, Doug mentions the time barrier - and gives a little ENT explanation for what that 'The Cage' line might have been all about:
Back in those early days of high warp velocities, warp field generation was iffy at best. The NX warp coils, unlike later starships, were asymmetrical and therefore generated an asymmetrical warp bubble. This was an extremely dangerous proposition. The Symmetrical Warp Governor generated a low yield sub space field which “bends” the warp bubble into a more acceptable configuration for high warp velocities. Until this shortcoming was overcome, extreme warp factors of 6 to 8 were not possible.

In The Cage, Jose Tyler enthuses to the Talos crash survivors about “our new ships” and how you won’t believe how fast you can get back to Earth. This was a result of finally being able to achieve a dedicated symmetrical warp bubble.
Which works pretty well as far as I'm concerned... and explains why we should be resolved to conclude that 'those new warp seven beauties' referenced in 'TATV' were a lot further away than we might have believed, since that was 2161 and the 'time barrier' wasn't broken til sometime after 2236 (when the S.S. Columbia crashed) and 2254 (when 'The Cage' happened.)

Someone said that the RHPS time warp would be lost on younger posters, and I have to say as a 23 year old, I love that movie. Then again, I also like the movies Wings, Casablanca, Nosferatu. I grew up with Charlie Chaplin, Three Stooges, Buster Keaton, Red Skeleton, and Abbott and Costello, so I was well exposed to the classics

Personally, I own it. One of my friends, who is also my age, comes over and we have a movie night once a month to watch that, pulp fiction, monty python, and other similar movies.

No, no, no, Mysterion...it's a jump to the left, and a step to the riiiiiii-aye-ight!:)

But this all might be lost on our younger posters.

Those are the people keeping that movie alive.

And read Douglas Adams and listen to Pink Floyd, no doubt.

Well... yes... and AC/DC, and Queen. I am simply trying to illustrate that there are those of us "younger" generations that like "older" generations stuff too.
