Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not money?

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

I think the worst message that that episode sent out was the doctor aiding and abetting a criminal by allowing her to escape from the law.

The Doctor has commited far worse crimes up to and including multiple counts of Genocide.

I assume you'd want him to answer for those crimes too, so as not to warp kiddies fragile little minds?

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

The worst possible message to send to "the kids" is that every entertainment they're exposed to must have a message to send to "the kids."
I think you'll find that children are impressionable blank slates who are molded entirely by the television they watch/books they read.

Nothing to do with their parents then?

I spent the 80s watching the A-Team, but I never once built a tank out of some old scrap...

I think he was being sarcastic... ;)

And to be honestly fair, I don't see people lambasting Moffat. I mean, in The Empty Child the 9th Doctor lets Nancy get away with stealing the dinner. In fact, he praises her. So, fair is fair. If RTD sucks for this message, then so does Moffat.

Don't be silly. RTD is horriblehorriblehorribleGAYAGENDAhorribleDEUSEXMACHIANhorrible, whilst we should all lick the dirt off of Steven Moffat's boots. ;)

For the record, The Infinite Quest establishes that the Doctor has 3,005 outstanding convictions, including:,

- 1,400 counts of minor traffic violations
- 250 counts of evading library fines
- 18 counts of planetary demolition

Plus, he stole the TARDIS.

Obviously the Doctor isn't a big believer in property rights. ;)
for a man who has a time machine, library fines should not be a problem for him.

I would think that if you're absent-minded enough, a time machine would severely rack up the fines. If you borrow a book yesterday, hop into the TARDIS, and land in the 51st Century, then that's quite a fine.

Frankly, with all the running and time-hopping the Doctor does, 250 seems to be disappointingly low for an immortal, supposedly well-read Time Lord criminal :)

Not to mention that the Doctor was always letting Sabalom Glitz-- confirmed murderer and slaver-- go free with nary a word!

Who was the guy that hung around here for a while with the "RTD in jail for crimes against humanity" avatar? Whenever I read a post of his that's mostly what I go out it, right here.

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

Cuz he's the Doctor. He makes his OWN rules baby!

And besides, if she did get caught what about all those uncomfortable questions about what happened to the cup?

Christina: "No really. The Doctor smashed it up to make his bus levitation thingy work."

Chief Inspector: "Right. Now pull the other one."

And even allowed his companion to leave with him! Seriously that's gotta be the stupidest companion exit ever...even worse that 'I find I'm in love with this man I barely know' Leela exit!

That was me, and as I pointed out to about 3 million people at the time, it was steeped in irony and not to be taken seriously.

For the record it said "Wanted for crimes against British sci-fi" (the big hilarious joke being that the man had almost single handedly saved it from oblivion and made it cool again, but anyway).

I've never posted anything like an aimless, hyperbolic rant about RTD, never accused him of having a gay agenda (I find those people who do pretty ridiculous) and I've been known to groan loudly whenever the words "deus ex machina" crop up as a euphemism for "I didn't like the ending"... just FYI.

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

^I think someone else may have used that avatar or a similar one sincerely last year, after "Journey's End" hurt his feelings. Can't quite remember who, though.

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

Tellin' ya, it was me under my MisterGaribaldi guise. Mind?

It was me I tells ya. Me me me me me me me me!

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

You were MisterGaribaldi?

Everyone else probably knew that...

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

It wasn't a dual or anything shady like that. But yeah... it was I. Folks took that avatar way too seriously.

I was teensy weensy bit butthurt about Journey's End, but still, "RTD is horriblehorriblehorribleGAYAGENDAhorribleDEUSEXMAC HIANhorrible" is in no way representative of anything I've ever posted ever. That's just shit tinted glasses at work. Not that I can blame anyone, it was a while ago.

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

Well, considering it was you, you were a model of restraint. :D

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

I've never actually spoken on the "gay agenda" issue, as I find the whole argument absurd on both sides. I think people get the wrong end of the stick with the entire thing.

I'm sure he does have an agenda - he is presenting positive gay characters in a mainstream show - but what's wrong with that?

Historically such characters have been few and far between. If, thanks to RTD, we're getting good, heroic characters like Captain Jack (okay, not strictly "gay", but you know...), it simply shows how far we've come since the days of "I'm free" and "Shut that door" in the same slot thirty years ago.

Re: Stealing is alright aslong as its done for the thrill and not mone

Usually the phrase "gay agenda" is used to mean "he's trying to ram his sexuality down our throats o teh noes".

His only "gay agenda" as far as I can tell is simply having homo/bisexual characters in there without it being a big deal (which arguably backfires when he makes a bigger deal about it not being a big deal arg my head hurts).

Ultimately RTD's AGENDA is to make good television, something which he succeeds at more often than not.

At least that's all he's trying to ram down my throats.
