Hi I'm new and I have a slight awkward request

Hi Everybody,

I'm new to this whole Star Trek thing. Actually, I have an awkward request and I'm hoping someone may be willing to help me if they can. The only reason I'm asking on this board is because I know absolutely nothing about Star Trek, but a friend of mine does.

So here is my question:

What is the best way to contact one of the stars for a promotional event (An American Cancer Society event) or to get someone to meet one of them?

See here's my problem, I personally am not a huge Star Trek fan, but a friend of mine is, and she has always wanted to meet the tall guy (Frakes?) on Star Trek show. But I hear there are like conventions or something (again, I apologize the most I know about Star Trek is the Original Series). Anyway this friend of mine has trouble getting out of the house and I thought it would be nice if I could somehow contact Frakes just let him know the situation, ask how much $$ it would be to get him to do a promotional event for the ACS and that way I can get her to meet him and then she can be happy.

I tried looking up paramounts address - but it seemed very old (like 10 years) and I don't really trust that because of the age.

So could anyone help me?Give me some direction to look into so I can contact him somehow? Or what would be the best way for me to get her to meet him? I know the Star Trek people are more open then the other famous people out there- so if anyone has any ideas or an address or something, I would seriously be forever in your debt!

Presumably you'll need to contact his agent. I'm not sure how you would find that information out. However, if I were looking to hire a Trek actor my first port of call would be to contact a con committee who has hired them as a guest to that con in the past. I know that Fedcon in Germany has had Frakes as a guest previously. Also Starfleet Ball in the UK had him as a guest a couple of years back. http://www.sfball.com/contact.php?event=1 They may still have his contact details. I know that their charity this year was teenage cancer sufferes.

I've never really gone out of my way before to do something like this for a friend, but I guess there's not time like the present to start attempting, right?

Last I heard, Jonathan Frakes was lecturing at Rockport College (now known as Maine Media College) and his wife owns an interior decorating business in Maine according to this thread:

so, presumably, you could try to contact him via either of those routes.

I'll let you all know what I decide to do, but I'm first going to try to contact his agent!

I'd say it wouldn't hurt to contact Frakes through the school. After all, lecturers have public email addresses for the exact purpose of being active outside their local school community. It's primarily for academic purposes, but a cause such as yours is really just as noble if not moreso.
 
Um, ok one more awkward question. Does anyone know which school he taught at? Did he teach at the University of Maine? Sorry I know I sound like an idiot but really- I know absolutely NOTHING about the man. :(

I know he's a Penn State graduate, as am I.

If you want him to appear for a charity event, at which your friend could meet him, I'd suggest going to the charity, getting them onboard, and then having the charity make the contact. An actual organization making the approach rather than a person on behalf of a fan friend I'd think is more likely to generate a response.

What it may come down to his how much Frakes is willing to do charitable appearances, and how far he's willing to travel, and fitting it into his schedule. I'm sure he could do nothing but walk the earth meeting fans if he so chose.
 
Haha if so he's a much better man than I. If I were in his position I'd be hiding from the masses! LOL

Yes, I'll talk with the ACS here at my local county to see if we can't figure out how to manage this. I think your right on this one Briguy. I was thinking that myself. :)
