Least favorite character

I think we can all agree both Jellico and Riker were tools in Chain of Command.
IIRC Jellico is supposed to be based partially on 20th century Military Type/s
according to some of the members on this board.

4 shifts from 3 shifts I wanted to slap Riker over his NOT wanting to get that done

I will get flack for this,

Not from me. I'm standing over here nodding.

but I didn't like Guinan...her character was fine, but Whoopi Goldberg has turned into such a shrill, overbearing know-it-all, I can no longer separate the two...
My thoughts on the situation entirely. In my opinion her character stole from Troi, and what people see as some sort of wise intervention, I see as unsolicited meddling. But that's just me.

...Pulaski's deeply harbored belief that Data wasn't even a person. In virtually every scene between them, Pulaski comes off not as McCoy's lighthearted provacteur but a Goddamn Nazi. Doctor Pulaski? More like Doctor Mengele.

What was worse was that no one ever told her to just shut her carbon-chauvinist, narrow-minded mouth, at least so I recall. I can't name the episode, but there's a bit where she is really just being incredibly insulting to Data's sapient dignity, and Picard just sits there and lets her do it. I was disgusted by every moment of that scene. Wish I could remember the episode.
I reviewed Elementary, Dear Data, but she doesn't seem to insult Data in front of Picard in that episode.

"Where Silence Has Lease" ?

Dr. Beverly Crusher. What a 90's housewife! I mean come on, my mom died when i was young was stepmom was Bev Crusher, I wanna date my boss. Do u think I'm hoT?

No really, she was just really cardboard. Reminds me of Cindi from my dads carpool. Bleach blonde redhead. Come on!

Also The Cracker Wil Wheaton. If this guy was cute, different story, but hes a dork and boring, so no al crushers are lamo s in the Molly book.

Oh, how I love what this thread has become! It's like a perfect example of everything I like most about this place - particularly humour, politeness, and insight!

Two characters I couldn't stand were the Pakleds in that episode where they imprison Geordi on their ship while Picard is away having surgery. Every time they spoke about how they're "smart", I wanted to beat them to death. I felt like throwing something at the television. I'm so glad those characters were never re-visited.

You are smart!

Thank you so much for the compliment, and a very clever way to give it I might add! :techman:

Hopefully he died in the Dominion War or retired.

 Expressing hatred for a character by saying you hope he died in a war=hilarious.

they tried to replicate it with Pulaski as a stand-in for McCoy and Data as a stand-in for Spock, they took the usually good-spirited quasi-racism McCoy needled Spock with and turned it into Pulaski's deeply harbored belief that Data wasn't even a person. I've disagreed with you vehemently in other threads, but you are absolutely spot-on right here. I was aware of Pulaski's mean-spiritedness towards Data, but I never realized just how extreme it was until your thoughtful and eloquent analysis of it there really put it into perspective.

Coincidentally, Pulaski seemed to finally realize the error in her judgment of Data right before she left the series for good. I'm referring to "Peak Performance", where she goes to his quarters and tells him to "stop sulking", admitting to herself and to him that Data is a lot more human than anyone gives him credit for (including Data himself). I think it was Pulaski's best moment on the show, and probably the only one in which I really liked her. Not that it made me sad about her leaving after only one more episode. :)

That particular moment was when Pulaski redeemed herself in my eyes as well. It makes me wonder what could have been had she stuck around since she saw the error in her prejudice.

Excluding Wesley Crusher, my least favourite main character is Troi. Because in the average episode the only thing she has to add is either "He's hiding something" or something so obvious that it made me wonder why the rest of the crew didn't scream "Captain Obvious and Commander Dûh to the rescue!!!".

pulaski, because of the way she was with data. it was uncomfortable how often she insulted him, and that nobody was fussed about it.

Even a broken clock... :p

Well, it took forever. I mean, he's really obviously a person. It's reasonably apparent he has feelings, even if not human ones. He was as alive as Pulaski was. Moreso, really. She was just a copy they made in the transporter.

Btw, I liked the Pakleds. They were fun, although it's questionable how sensitive to people with reduced mental capacity Samaritan Snare was... the moral might have been "Don't underestimate someone just because you think they're stupid," but they surrendered to a light show.

My husband was a U.S. Marine, and he loathes Jellico (perhaps because he did know and dislike officers exactly like him). Then again, he loathes Riker in practically every episode, and there are a lot more Riker episodes than Jellico episodes.

Definitely Beverly Crusher... almost every line from every episode annoyed me.

EDIT: Come to think about it, as much as I can't stand Wesley either, I would've gladly added him to the regular cast in exchange for Beverly leaving the show.

Okay, I think there's a reference here that went over my head. :(

Btw, I liked the Pakleds.

You just don't like the idea of us agreeing completely on everything in a thread, right? :p

Interesting interpretation of that episode, but whatever its intentions may have been, all I saw were extremely irritating characters that it made me cringe to hear and watch. Unlike Kai Winn or Keiko when she was possessed by a Pah Wraith for example - villains who make you feel like punching them, but at the same time you have to admit are great villains because you "love to hate them". Those guys I just hated as poorly-conceived characters with no quality besides being annoying.

Also, I find all the Bev Crusher hate in here very upsetting. :( I thought she was delightful...I wish she'd had more lines and more episodes built around her in the series. I think her finest moments were giving Data dancing lessons in "Data's Day" and her adventure with Picard in "Attached". I don't know how anyone who loves the rest of the cast could not at least have some affection for her based on her interactions with those two key members in those situations.
