At least they had the right letter. Starship Troopers without powered armor is like Lord of the Rings without the ring.Tell that to Demi Moore and her "Scarlett Letter" (you know, the one that was made of golden thread on her dress?)

I call bullshit on that one or Hasbro doesn't know their own industry. Either or.
Transformers is rather diverse in continuity at the moment with the box specs (which are their own continuity), the G1 cartoon (which has very little continuity), the Marvel G1 comics, the Japanese G1 cartoon, the British Marvel G1 comics, the G1 manga, the Marvel G2 comics, the Beast Wars cartoon, the Japanese Beast Wars cartoon, Convention Beast Wars comics, Dreamwave Beast Wars comics, IDW Beast Wars comics, Dreamwave G1 comics, IDW G1 comics, Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise cartoon, Japanese Car Robot cartoon, Armada/Energon/Cybertron, Japanese Armada/Energon, Japanese Cybertron, Dreamwave Armada/Energon/Cybertron, IDW Armada/Energon/Cybertron, Alternators, Binaltech, Kiss Players, Hearts of Steel, Animated.
I'm pretty sure that I'm leaving something out.
There is plenty of wiggle-room there.

We are talking about the same Starship Troopers, right? The same book that existed to promote Heinlein's militaristic, pro-meritocracy and anti-Communism views?
I mean, Jesus, there are like four combat scenes in the entire book. If one focuses on powered armor as the central aspect of the story, you're missing the entire point.
What was it going to be called originaly?I do not believe that the makers of Starship Troopers ever read the book. Without powered armor it is not Starship Troopers.
The Verhoeven movie wasn't even going to be Starship Troopers at first, it was going to be a parody of those kinds of films but they changed the title.
And that's why I LOVE it!At least they had the right letter. Starship Troopers without powered armor is like Lord of the Rings without the ring.

So true. Heinlein seemed to want to create a society in which responsibility for one's place in that society was paramount, where citizenship was awarded based on contributions to the greater good rather than on birthright. Powered armor was just a tool used by those who cared enough to give their all to the concept.

It seems churlish to point out that you missed out the Movieverse entirelyincluding the IDW movie comics and the prequel novels - there is also a series of three really terrible novels that came out about the same time as the DW comics but diverge from them and various colouring books and things - if you're being picky. But that's an excellent illustration of the point - Transformers isn't a single story with a single continuity - it's a multiverse, and the movie is completely true to that. It's the reason that some people who remember liking G1 were pissed off at the movie, but some people like you or I who are still current in TF fandom were fine with it - its a different universe.
The powered armor and the war are the central themes of the book. It has very little if anything to do with the society at large. People keep trying to attribute meaning to that story that it doesn't have.At least they had the right letter. Starship Troopers without powered armor is like Lord of the Rings without the ring.Tell that to Demi Moore and her "Scarlett Letter" (you know, the one that was made of golden thread on her dress?)

Lol - one of the weirder continuities - the kiss players. Sorry to put words into your mouth. But yeah, personal opinions on the film are one thing, but comparisions to G1 are irrelevent at this stage.

The funny thing is that the grown woman who looks like a preteen girl who is making out with Optimus Prime is the daughter of Flint and Lady Jaye from GI Joe.
Maybe if he did read the Dreamwave and IDW comics he could have made a better and tighter movie.
