No bashing me today, im just reporting news.

http://www.shewired.com/Article.cfm?ID=22377

The newest installment of Stargate will be known as Stargate Universe or SGU will prominently feature the series' franchise first lesbian character. Talented, gorgeous, ER alum Ming-Na Wen will portray political attaché Camille Wray.

Afterellen.com reports that scenes they’ve previewed portray Camille and Sharon “very naturally and affectionately — talking, making dinner, and sharing a kiss.”

Discuss! As most of you know my feelings on the subject.

I don't, what ARE your feelings on the subject?

I dont care for the gay or lesbian part of this show, and plus dont like the overall drama instead of what SG-1 was which was Action Adventure through the Stargate. Ala Stargate SG-1!

Not as adventurous as a gay male character, but it's still something outside of the norm for the pretty conservative Stargate franchise.

So the two gay characters are super hot lesbians?

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What a fucking surprise.

Leave it to Sci-Fi to recognize a stellar opportunity to revive a hungry lesbian primetime audience.

Um, is the primetime audience really hungry for lesbians?

Quiznos?

The best way to have gay characters is not too are about putting them in, they should just be normal characters and we know there gay but no need to focus the spotlight on them for the sake of trying to be edgy and cool.

c'mon writers get your act together we want stories not a UPN male executive's wet dream.

I'm not really surprised that the homosexual characters are hot lesbians... it is certainly the safer choice.

I don't have much faith in the SG writers to handle something like this but I'll give them props for making the effort.

Now, if they could just give a decent role to a minority character.

Um, is the primetime audience really hungry for lesbians?

Still boycotting.

I wouldn't joke. There really are hate mongers out there who would express their ignorant bigotry through just such a protest.

Sad but true.

And everything was fine with this thread before you felt the need to insult people with different values than you. Good job.

I didn't mean to come on too strong... I understand that you were just being funny.

In case you really did, no I wasn't being funny.

Unless you want this thread closed I would suggest dropping it now.

I knew it. They're too chicken to show a gay male character. :rommie:

Even worse - TWO gay male characters! OMG they might hold hands!!!

Poor, poor Stargate. They think lipstick lesbians constitute edgy TV? They may as well be the Hallmark Hall of Fame.

What a fucking surprise.

Pretty much, yep.

Countdown to Temis in 5, 4, 3, 2...

Sorry I was late! :p

So why not make them extra super mad by having the gay characters be two guys who push the envelope of what you can show on basic cable? ;) The boycotters will be mad anyway, might as well go for it.

Has BBCAmerica had any trouble over Torchwood? I read that it was their most successful show.

Though, I guess BBCAmerica wouldn't be the best judge. The types of people who would complain would likely be turned off by the funny accents before the gay sex got a rollin'.

BBCAmerica is pretty low profile. In my area, Skiffy is basic cable but you have to pay more for BBCAmerica. And even in Skiffy's case, I doubt there seriously will be much trouble (and not just because I'm sure Stargate's approach to gayness will bore us all to death). You gotta be on network TV to really rile folks up.

Are you kidding? It's the only choice considering that 95% of their audience consists of 18 - 25 year-old heterosexual males who can't get a date on a Friday night so they are stuck home jerking off to SciFi Fridays.

I totally agree. I'm lobbying for Sherman Hemsley to be cast, myself.

...or Paul Rodriguez:

I mean seriously, both these guys are desperate for work and Sherman has that cool walk.

And of course there are plenty of hate mongers out there who express their ignorant bigotry by calling people who are opposed to homosexual behavior based on their own moral/and or religious convictions hate mongers expressing their ignorant bigotry.

I personally don't give two shits either way about a lesbian or gay guy on this show or any other show, however, Mr. Pot allow me to introduce you to Mr. Kettle.
