Freakin' Car Warranty Phone Scammers!

I've been getting these calls on my cellphone for months now. I was fed up so this time I pushed '1' to talk to a real person.
I calmly told him I had a 2009 Bugatti Veyron and a 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
He didn't sound like he cared at all that I had a million dollar supercar . . . probably didn't really pay attention to what it was, just that being a 2009 meant it was too new and still supposedly had a warranty on it. The '67 however was apparently too old to get a phony warranty on

so he apparently took my number off the list. I highly doubt it.

these phone scams are illegal, and apparently they don't pay any attention to the do not call list, and even ring up cell numbers. I think it's called sequential dialing. They simply dial every valid number and weed out the out of service numbers and hope that they get enough suckers to buy their phony warranties
I think they were sued by the FCC once . . . but they're still doing it :scream:

next time I'm going to tell them my number is owned by the US government and that they've compromised the security of a highly important operation

Anyone who owns any model 1967 VW is a glutton for punishment (too many one-year only parts ;) ), but I like your taste in cars (the Ghia).

Funny you should post this, because I spotted this article in today's local online news.
Missouri company can’t sell in Oklahoma

My mothers gets the car warrenty call all the time:lol: I get all kinds of 800s 866....ect but I never care to answer.

I got one yesterday as well. Jerks. I'm half-blind and can't drive, leave me alone. That goes for you too, Geico mail.

These calls drive me nuts. They will stop for a couple of weeks, than they start up again.

A friend of mine pressed 1 one time when they called. The person came on the line and asked what kind of car he had and he responded with "You tell me. You said my warranty was about to expire. How would you know that if you didn't know what kind of car I have and how old it is?" The operator tried a couple of times to get him to tell, but finally gave up.

I've been tempted to press 1 and then tell them I have an Edsel or a Model T or an old tractor or something.

Every time I have dealings with the California DMV, I get those calls and I've found out that government agencies at the state level SELL my information to database companies. When I got a ticket in Texas, Lawyers called my cell phone. When I update my registration in California these fake warranty companies call me.

I detest state governments..sometimes they are more sleazy than the Feds..

Oooh, i gotta try that. I get those damn calls all the time.

I get at least one of those calls every few days. I don't own a car. I don't even have a driver's license. So very very annoying.

Isn't it that if you are on the DNCL that you can receive a check, and the respective law breaker a fine, if they do and you report it?

I get them too, they're annoying as hell. 'Course when you realize that someone is calling from a San Diego number about car insurance, you know that something is fishy. Especially when you don't own a car.

Even though you may be on a DNC list, if you go to seemingly unrelated websites and give personal info there's usually something on the site that states by logging on, you allow the main company's "affiliates" to call you and have access to your information.

See what happens when you automatically click the AGREE button (or check the "I have read the Terms") checkbox too quickly?

Yeah, I get them too. I don't get any other telemarketing/scam calls on my phone, just this stupid one. They call at the worst possible times too, like when I am talking with my boss or at an important interview.

We get 3 or 4 messages from the assholes a day. At work.

I have had a few calls from numbers related to them on my cell, but since I don't answer calls unless I know who it is, it doesn't really bother me.

I get those frakking annoying calls as well, and on my cellphone!!!! How the frak do they have my number? And how do they know whether or not my car warranty has expired? Do they have a radar detector or something?! Geesh..I almost got scammed out of my $$ one time on a warranty. I was paying way too much for something I would probably never use so I called and canceled it. The guy had the nerve to ask me if I didn't want it why did I call? I said: excuse me, but YOU sollicited MY mail box with this crap! I don't need it.
They sent me another bill, but I didn't pay it. So I canceled it..haven't heard from those frakkers since.
But I agree-those calls should be outlawed. Mom and I get them all the time. I have half of a mind to press one and tell the person to frak off that I'm tired of getting these harrassing phone calls all the time!
