Question for Andy Mangels

I believe I've seen Andy Mangels post here from time to time, so hopefully he'll see this thread.

Andy, I'm very interested in purchasing a copy of Lou Scheimer: Creating the Filmation Generation. According to Amazon.com the book has not yet been published. Do you know when it might be published?

Thanks!

I don't mind replying here, as there are other people who might be interested.

Due to a variety of factors, including (but not limited to) Lou's health and the death of his wife earlier this year, the book has been delayed. We're continuing to work on it, and the hope is that it will be released this fall.

Hope you understand, and the book will be worth the wait!

Andy, thanks for the info. I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Lou's wife, and I look forward to learning that Lou's health has improved.

I'm sure that the book will be worth the wait. Recently I've enjoyed rediscovering many Filmation-produced favorites thanks to their DVD releases, and the extras that you made with Lou and his family have been a big part of that rediscovery. Thanks!

First I've heard of this, but would love to read it. Filmation made animated Trek AND He-Man & The MOTU, and did a great job with both!

I loved Lou's passion about his work in a lot of interviews.

Andy,
Sorry if I overstepped my bounds, I just figured it was faster for the OP. I did not mean to talk for you.

No problem at all JAG, and I appreciate all the people who have expressed interest.

I'll see Lou at the end of next month to work on the book further.

Something I was wondering: What's it like with two authors collaborating on a single novel? Is it generally a smooth process, or is there sometimes disagreements with how the story should progress, with one author wanting to do one thing and the other wanting to do something else?

When working with a collaborator, one has to figure out ways BEFOREHAND to deal with disagreements. That is, in the plotting and breakdown stage. Especially on licensed properties, where everything has to be approved early on.

Once you start writing, things should be relatively smooth, because you both should be sticking to the original plot and breakdowns.

In the case of writing the book with Lou, I have done extensive interviews with him, and am writing the book from his words, stringing his quotes together in a narrative form, and filling in material along the way. Since this book will have a lot of show-specific historical material such as episode information and etc., I'll most likely write those sections whole, with Lou commenting along the way.

Ooh, that is a book I will simply have to have!
